yeah, very disappointing! I'll make an effort to watch him hit 756 just to see the reaction.

The most disappointing part was that the crowd was overwhelmingly supportive. I almost wish he had hit it in Houston. At least then the boos would be so loud you could hear them in San Francisco.

Bonds is such a jerk. He doesn't have any friends and seems to respect almost no one (except a few old hall of fame guys who saw him coming up).

:gig: I'm happy he hit it. Every crowd boos him when they come to the plate, then boos the pitcher for walking him. Houston would've been no different.

I not that upset... A ROD will own the record soon enough anyway...

Houston gives a standing ovation to the man who beaned him, twice.

Didn't see 755 and I won't watch 756. Personally I hope he sprains an ankle walking out of the dugout and can't finish the season. I think it is a tragedy that he even owns a share of the record. Can't wait until A-Rod breaks this record and I am not a huge A-Rod fan.

A-Rod will reach the record sometime in 2013.:)

For anybody who thinks he wouldn't have gotten the record on his own (without steroids), I'd have to argue with you. Yes, his knees are weak, but he could still play another 3-4 years as a DH in the American League where he could play everyday (something he doesn't do in the NL)...

I just hate that he's the lone scapegoat in this steroids stuff.

Im sorry but no one enters the prime of their career at 36. If he played till he was 45 without steroids he might be getting close, but he never would of had the monster seasons he did.

No, fans share a displeasure of Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmiero, Jason Giambi and Jose Conseco. Dislike of Bonds is just more noticable, since he's breaking the most important record in baseball.

What monster seaons? He's consistently hit 30 and 40 HR's a year since his rookie year. The only anomaly was when he hit 73. And probably one other year. The rest were on par for him...

agreed.

Maris had an "anomaly" year when he hit 61 as well...if you're going to use that as evidence...you have to be fair...

Maris was not in the twilight of his career when he did it. All I know is this. Barry Bonds is a spectacular hitter that became a better hitter late into his career. His hat and shoe size both grew by 2 when he was in his mid 30's. Besides, comparing Maris hitting 61 to bonds hitting 73 isnt even fair. , It was a different game. The only comparable batter is sosa and big mac (both cheaters). And Hank Aaron obviously...

I've never seen that stat before...is that a firm/supported # or are you just estimating? (serious question)...

I've never seen anyone quantify the # or % increase...

I have a particular hatred for sammy sosa because of the corked bat. I dont understand why baseball is not getting rid of these cheaters.

on the surface what you say looks correct but I disagree. According The Game of Shadows, Bonds started taking roids after the '98 season. I that 98 season Bonds, yes only hit 34 HR, BUT it was in 102 games (on pass for near 60 HR)... 20 games from the mid season mark (most likely due to the more immediate effects of the steroids). Then in 2000 he hit 49. This number is important be because it was his most to that date. He only hit more than 42 homeruns (46 HR) once and that was in 1993. So he hits 49 after going nearly ten yeas without hitting more than 42 since that date. Then we have the 2001, 73 homerun season...enough said. He goes on to hit 45 or more home runs the next three seasons. Mind you he only hit more than 42 homeruns only once (in previously said 1993). Then Bonds is injured in 2005 (probably getting his body clean to pass the new steriods tests). Now with Steroid testing in full affect in 2006 Bonds drops down to 26 HR in near the same number of games he was playing putting up career number...

I think this proves once testing went into affect he got off the juice and fell back to earth. Now he still could be using HGH becuase the MLB does not have a way to test for it.............

Okay, so Bonds started juicing after the '98 season. In 1996, he hit 42 homers. In 97, he hit 40 and in 98 he hit 37.

I don't see how hitting 45 home runs is a "stretch" for a guy who consistently came close 3 years in a row.

He had 411 HR's prior to the '99 season. Since he supposedly juiced from 99-05, give him 30 HR's a year instead of the 40+ he had (although his stats say he would've had around 40 normally). Given those very conservative estimates, right now, he'd have 643. He'd be 112 HR's behind Aaron and within 3-4 years of American League DH'ing, he'd have the record. In the American League, he could play every day and not do this day to day stuff...

the 73 is the jump. I dont think he would break the record without the 73. Its one thing to say he might of get the record without roids, but to say he didnt use roids at all is insane.

"Bonds has now tied the GREAT Hank Aaron".

I really doubt they will say something similar when A-Rod breaks bonds' record.

I hate to say it but we are leaving the steriod era in baseball and entering the HGH era in baseball. They are just going to trade one performance enhancing substance for another.

and Vly I think you missed somewhat of the point I was making his first season in 99 when "alledgely" on roids he hit 45 bomds in 102 GAMES....that is a pace for almost 60. He is hitting carrer number of homeruns in less games and AB's...thats crazy. The 2005 and 2006 season are the whictle blowers because testing was in full affect and he fell back to earth.

and the AL DH theory may have happened, but I doubt Bonds himself would want to play that long. and I very much doubt that he could keep up his 30-40 homerun a season rate.

Because when you get to that age, everyone else who has ever played the game begins to decline, not get better, bigger, and stronger. The human body does not work that way.
