Seems like neither the Cyclones or Tigers are headed to the Big 10....

SI.com has their money on Rutgers.... Who I think will crash back to nothing if they do....

Is Rutgers headed to the Big Ten? (http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/16934)

In the early '90s, soon after Penn State (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/5983) became the 11th member of the Big Ten, its longtime football coach and athletic director tried lobbying for another eastern school to join the conference. "(Joe) Paterno and I would tell them, 'If we can't get Notre Dame (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/6052), Rutgers (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/5962) should be our first choice,'" said Jim Tarman, the since-retired athletic director. A seemingly crazy idea at the time, it's not so ridiculous anymore. Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany suggested last week expansion needs to happen "in the next year," though he later backed off and said no schools have been contacted.

if they do not get notre dame to play their game, i think a likely fit is Pitt. mizzou and isu are of course likely targets as well. if the big 11 is going to raid the big east for a team, i think pitt, louisville, wvu would make a lot more since than rutgers would. maybe they want to try and tap into the nyc tv market though.

That would be a tough jump for Rutgers but they would be in a better conference.

While not on the level of Texas, Cal or Fla.... NY does produce some damn good athletes... that might play a bigger role in it.... They want the NYC talent more than the TV.... Friend of mine who graded from Rutgers said that the games aren't gauranteed to be on TV even in NJ where they are located....

How could they not be on TV in NJ?

As long as Notre Dame is improving and things look good, I don't think they will enter a conference. They have the big tv contract that will continue as long as their popularity remains, they already get great consideration from the BCS and pollsters, and they don't have to deal with conference alignment on any issue.

Cause in NJ/NY.... up until this past season they were a relative Unkown.....

They had been bad for a long time & hadn't been on TV.... they normally show Va Tech, the Maryland Terps & some Big 10 schools over there as it is....

Rutgers has a hard time competeing for air time up there..... Now they might, but if they joined the Big 11, then they would get crushed & once they start losing... the Big 11 wouldn't gain anymore air time than they already recieved from that region....

Also look at who Rutgers played in the past... Temple, USF, UCONN & other weak schools on a regular basis... not that big of a draw....

The Big 11 isn't looking to add a team that can compete. They are looking to add a team that will finish in the lower 1/3 of the league year after year....Rutgers is a perfect fit.
