The Big 12 Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship ... Is It Time to Call an End to It?
From 1996 to 2001 six teams competed for the Big 12 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship. For the last 6 years Texas, Texas A&M and Mizzou are the only schools that have sponsored teams for this coveted championship. Texas won the first 10 of these titles, with the last one going to Texas A&M.

Oklahoma and Nebraska (the only Big 12 schools that sponsor men’s gymnastics) are members of the The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). They are 2 of 5 teams that compete for this federation's championship.

Two schools are not enough for a conference championship and three aren't either. Should the Big 12 sponsor a championship for a sport when only a quarter of its schools field a team? This is a hollow championship with only three teams competing. Does the Big 12 need to end its sponsorship of a championship for men’s swimming and diving? I believe it does.

There are currently 4 Big 12 schools that participate in the VARSITY EQUESTRIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP (http://www.varsityequestrian.com/championship/index.html). There is no Big 12 championship for this sport for the women athletes of Baylor, Kansas State, OSU and Texas A&M.

In 1998, equestrian was classified as an NCAA emerging sport. Many people within the horse industry have united together to help advance the sport to full NCAA championship status.

In order to attain this goal and hold a NCAA Equestrian Championship, there must be 40 Division I/II schools that sponsor equestrian as a varsity level program.

Currently 23 colleges and universities offer equestrian as a varsity sport and more continue to add the program each year.

Mizzou is the Baylor of swimming. There just has to be some financial incentive to continue 11 years of beatings.:undecided:

You have missed the point. The issue is whether 3 teams can make a championship.47
