you can't blame players not preforming on Papura...he went out and made deals this winter that looked great at the time (Williams and Jennings not so great now, but Lee is doing great)....this is a case of players severe underachieving

Favorite play of the night was the ball rolling through both Johnson and Renterias legs and Chipper throwing the guy out at home. That play was such a change of emotion
Oh Go Braves :gig:

When you only have one solid starter and everyone else is a crapshoot, you're not going to win a lot of games.

Our pitching sucks. Is there any way we can get Oswalt to pitch every game.

Uncle Drayton is going to have to spend some major money in the off season to get at least one pitcher if not two.

Like they were saying on the radio yesterday the Astros have Oswalt and a bunch of #5 pitchers.

I'd like to see them bring up Troy Patton as a possibility.

I think after this year, Drayton will pony up some cash to bring in a solid #2 and #3 pitcher. He was willing to pay Pettitte and Clemens, so no reason that he shouldn't pay that kind of money to someone else.

Oswalt, Sampson, and a couple other free agents would make a nice staff next year.

Does anyone know who some of the big names that will be on the market?

heard today that Santana wants out of Minnesota...they'll look to dump him in the offseason...the bidding will start @ $20M...

Yeah, he's pissed b/c they didn't make any moves to get better. I'd be pissed too. He is too good to be on a mediocre team. He is a FA after 2008.

How about picking up:

Carlos Zambrano
Curt Schilling
Tom Glavine

Could you imagine that!

Are any of those guys actually available? I would love to get Zambrano just so that Houston wouldn't have to face him any more.

How about Mariano Rivera as a closer? Andru Jones in center?

no to jones in center.

No need to spend $$$ on Rivera as a closer if Lidge keeps doing what he is doing. I know its too soon to know for sure, but he sure looks like he got it figured out.

no to jones in center.

Even if it moves Pence to right and a more natural position for him.

no-- Jones is batting .216, has lost a step, only wants to hit for power, will command a nice bankroll, the list can go on.

Plus Pence is doing just fine in cneter....why mess with his success

Santana is under contract through next season, so he won't be available until a year from now.

I think the first thing Drayton needs to do is fire Purpura!

I'm not a fan of Papura (mainly because of his stance on minor league talent) and was pissed when Hunsicker left...but this is not a front office problem, this is a clubhouse problem either coaching or players just giving up....

We have a crappy bullpen to begin with. Now they are really overworked, could we really expect them to improve.
