The infamous "Player to be named". San Diego also got cash from the Astros.

"I can't wait to go have Mexican food,"? WTF? Did he never eat Mexican food in Houston. Not only is he a bad ballplayer, but he is also one weird dude!
So they trade Wheeler and Ensberg. Not enough. I know Loretta is a free agent after this season. Who else is?
The management needs to wake up. We are not going to make a run at the post season. All those players that are free agents at the end of the season could be traded away for something, anything. As it stands we are going to keep them, get nothing for them, then maybe re-sign them for next year.
We should have traded them, got something for them, and then if we really liked them re-sign them after the season is over.
If this is all they do the Astros GM needs to be fired.

well they actually benefit from not trading Lamb and Loretta in a way. If they sign with other teams (Lamb certainly will, Loretta has expressed interest in staying with the Astros), for the sake of arguement they both sign else where The Astros are entitled to compenstation picks from the signing teams....the pick will be determined on where they are rated in the free agent class (i think there are class A , class B, and class C)....for instance we were out early picks this year because of signing Lee, Williams,Loretta...in years past we missed out becuase of signing Pettitte and others....so we will get players for them one way or another....There is no need to settle for lesser players when trading just for the sake of trading them.
in your senerio we trade them settle for something lesser just to "get something for them" and then resign them...we would ulitmately screw ourselves because we in turn give up draft picks (why our system is depleted because of signing alot of FA over the years) and we would have settled for lesser talent....and on top of that they will no doubt be less likely to come back and sign with you if you just traded them away.
I'm not saying they are Class A FA and will will get first round picks....but we should get some compentsation maybe a sandwich pick after the second or something

by the astros designating Ensberg I believe they had 10 days (maybe 7 days) to trade him or he will become an unresistricted FA...so he was gone one way or another

Pinetar is correct about the compensation picks. I just learned about that during this past draft. I had no idea what that meant in the past. Houston will at least get a couple extra picks in the sandwich round next summer.
