I think everyone knew he was gone. Hopefully the Rangers will be able to show something for this trade. Historically they tank on trades.

Salty=very good catcher
Elvis Andrus - Originally they saw him to be like Jeter. When first signed the Braves internal scouts graded him the highest ceiling prospect they ever signed. That said he hasn't really shown much, outside of Rookie league. 2 seasons of A ball have disappointed the scouts that he may just never develop.
Braves have two good young pitchers reyes and harrison. If either was traded the Rangers did good. If they got Davies I'll laugh my butt off

So why get rid of Loftin for a minor league catcher if you are going to get Salty a few days later?

Max is a former braves prospect. Braves thought salty was better so they traded him. Same scenario with McCann
Max is the worst defensive catcher ever. He can rake like a mofo. He will be a DH or left fielder if you want a manny-esc left fielder

Salty will be a first baseman

Unless botts can play first and Salty behind the plate maybe ?

Major League people were saying Salty for Tex straight up might've been a good trade so I'm going to say Daniels getting this much is really good.

Even more reason that Salty will play first is the Rangers just promoted Teagarden to AA Frisco... He's moving up fast.

According to the "experts" at ESPN, he will be the catcher.

Then I'm guessing you'll be hearing of movement for either Laird or Melhuse...We've acquired 3 catchers this season now. :undecided:

Salty will catch atleast for the next couple years for sure. the catcher acquired in the Loftin deal is still years away from being major league ready. My guess is Salty starts immediately. As far as the pitchter to be named later it will be harrison...he was not named in the original deal because he came down with an injury recently....if it is no Harrison is will NOT be Jo jo Reyes

so wouldn't you think they'd try to package deal Laird or Melhuse? Also Teagarden was hitting some rediculous numbers in the last month.

I don't know the status with Melhouse but my guess is they may be able to option him back to AAA or they may look to designate him for assignment (or they may carry 3 catchers but unlikely). he will not bring anything of value so he will not be traded. My guess is Mulhouse will be designated so he can be taken off of the 40 man roster and then if and when he clears waivers he can be outrighted. I think they will carry Laird as the back up and he can catch if they give Salty a day off of let him DH.
I don't really follow the rangers but this would be the logical things they could do (so knowing what I do about the rangers they will do something else.)

I do not believe Teagaden is on the 40 man roster so do not expect to see him this year

I know that but every move now is basically for next year and now you have four catchers on the 40 man roster so one of them should be dealt in order to get something I'd think. I also found this about Salty on the SI article... Not sure what to think here.
This last consideration may not bother many, but Salty has an unusual family situation. Now 21, he married a teacher at his high school in West Palm Beach, Fla., who is now 37, according to records. His wife Ashley, who recently gave birth to their second child, insisted to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that their personal relationship didn't begin until the fall of 2004, when Salty was 18.
The Rangers apparently are aware of Salty's unusual family situation and are said to believe he's maturing. Besides, switch-hitting catchers are hard to come by.

thats why i said they should try to designate Mulhuse for assignment so he can clear waivers so he can be outrighted (this removes him from the 40 man roster...but can remain in the system)
Interesting read about Salty....kind of makes you raise an eyebrow but apprently everyone is aware and are cool with it

Yeah I'm just wondering what we do at first now... Wilkerson is a defensive liability there but moving him there allows you to have Cat, Byrd, and Cruz (Byrd and Cruz will start the rest of the year according to Washingon.) Putting Sammy in the DH that gives you a pretty decent lineup. There has also been a small rumor I heard that the Rangers might be going after Cub CF Pie... I wish this were true we need that speed at the top of the lineup. I do expect them to make the moves to get Botts up and probably Mahar or Freddy Guzman. To see how they pan out.

those three are on the 40 man roster so they may call thme up sometime in August...but for sure when rosters expand in Sept.

What position do the Braves have now that doesn't have all-star talent? Dad gum. Mark Texiera at 1B, Edgar Renteria at SS, Brian McCann at C, Chipper Jones at 3B, Andruw Jones at CF and Jeff Francour at OF!!!! This sucks. Look out for Atlanta

2B, LF, Closer, pitcher other than Smoltz and Hudson...Though I don't think too many people are scared of Andruw Jones' .220 average (it may be lower actually)....but yeah i see what you are saying they are looking at making a run at the Mets, and they should.

Andruws and Hamptons contracts come off the books after this year. That means 30 million in free agency money. 16-20 million for Tex. 10-14 million for upgrades. They likely will not bring andruw back IMO.
Pinetar 2B is fine though I agree with the rest
Kelly Johnson is batting .287 10 Homers 50 Rbi
Not spectacular but solid
