First of all...had a GREAT time on vacation...but the travel (to and from) sucked ass!

Issues:
1) All of our flights were late. Yes, we pushed back on time (out there) but only to sit on the tarmac for over 45 minutes...arrived late...took forever getting our luggage (even after we went through customs)...but that was the minor part.

2) Flight crew is f'n rude! We're on a flight GOING TO MEXICO...you'd think they'd have some bi-lingual crew aboard...nope. Also, once I'm boarded...they start randomly re-assigning seats (i think it was b/c they put some underage kids in the emergency exit row)...so they're trying to tell these spanish-speaking people to move...they don't understand & are confused as hell (probably thinking they're getting kicked off the plane)...and all the time, the flight crew keep repeating themselves in ENGLISH...just slower and louder...
Another instance of rudeness (see #4 &5 below).

3) On the trip back...after more delays in Mexico (both loading the plane b/c of a terminal change and because we set on the tarmac for another 40 minutes) we get to Atlanta and only have about an hour to make our connecting flight. An hour to go through passport check, get our luggage, re-check our luggage, go through security again, and change terminals (via-shuttle) and get to our gate. We get to the area to get our luggage...bags are torn to shreds...literally. Luckily ours were ok, so we run to re-check it (and run it through customs). We get there...with the rest of Delta's (delayed) international arrivals and it is a madhouse. I've flown international several times and I've never seen anything this disorganized. I take our luggage to the area where we're supposed to check it and they say...just drop it here. Yeah, just drop your luggage off here...amist 1000s (no exaggeration) of bags..."we'll take care of it"...bull ****. I've been through Chicago, Detroit, Newark, Dallas, & Houston all international & have NEVER seen or even HEARD of anything like this...needles to say, I still don't have my luggage...

4) So we get through security & I SPRINT to our teminal (we only have 10 minutes to take the shuttle & get to our terminal before takeoff). I've never ran as fast and as long in my life...I get there and hold the plane for my wife (she couldn't keep up :) ). We get on the plane...only to be greeted by a bitch of a flight crew who are waiting with folded arms & one says to me "glad you could join us"...piece of ****...oh yeah, after we close the doors we sit there for another 30 minutes and then push back...doors are closed.

5) Get to Nashville & I KNOW our luggage won't get there...go to the lost luggage/claims area & ask to start filling out the form. She literally pushes me (and many others w/ me) out of her office & says she can't help me until the carosel stops...So then we wait another 40 minutes until the carousel stops & the line begins. I finally get in there...and bring my wife & my bud & his wife who traveled with us...the lady looks at me & says..."this isn't a party, we only need one of you"...I lose it. I say "What the hell did you say to me??? If it is a policy, or privacy/safety reasons, I understand, but there's no reason to f'n snip at me...ESPECIALLY when YOUR job is to HELP me, REMEMBER??? Your badge and job description says customer service...guess what I'm the customer." Then another guy steps in & couldn't be nicer & explains the policy...and apologizes...and tries to help us.

and this doesn't count the other times I've flown w/ Delta & experienced the same issues...

one time they CANCELLED a flight because of "forecasted rain in Atlanta". I looked at the weather that day & it was forecasted 10% chance. We had to drive over 2 hours to change airlines to get a guy back home who had a 9 month pregnant wife waiting...

Fly much? Unless you're flying Southwest which of course, you couldn't because you flew to Mexico, you're going to have rude flight attendants and have a 50% chance of losing your luggage. And even Southwest is more of a "stern" type of polite.

If that's bad don't ever fly US Air. You weren't even trapped overnight somewhere. That happens me all the time. Once I was trapped in the Phoenix Airport for 2 days before I made it home and had the Austin Marathon the very next morning.

I fly all of the time...and agree that SW is by FAR the best airline as far as customer service and arrival times. While they are the "greyhound of the skys" I prefer them over any of the other carriers.

Delta/NW has always sucked & I was disappointed when my wife booked them for our vacation...but it was a price decision.
UScare is horrible as well.

And yes, I have had to stay overnight because of Delta's (and others) incompetance...and it was only because of my blazing speed that we didn't have to do it yesterday...;)

Yeah, I can't believe people don't like to fly SW because they don't want to be "treated like a herd of cattle"

But yet they would rather not be there on time (or even the right day) and lose their luggage. I have never in my life lost one bag with SW and have used them prob 70% of the time. (And I have flown so much with them that it's still a pretty amazing feat even for them. I have at least one rapid reward free flight every year and sometimes two) I still have bags from last year missing with US Air.

Or the exclusive "I have my own seat" Uh, excuse me I have to get by 30 people to get to 31D while they are trying to get by me to get to where I was. And 30 minutes later everyone is able to squeeze by everyone and put their oversized luggage (which you know didn't fit in that little model it's suppose to fit in) in an overhead bin and everybody is wondering why your flight is an hour late. You would think SW should concentrate on curing cancer with creating the mind boggling policy of "starting from one end and working to the other" Wow, look how much time that saved and you still got a window seat.

Thank God for SW. I just wish they flew to more places.

Yeah, I get at least one free ticket/year with them as well. I have a bit of Delta miles as well...but I REALLY don't want to use them...maybe I'll use them for a hotel for the AF road trip. :gig:

Although......

SW isn't as cheap as it use to be. The days of depending on 80 to 100 bucks per way is over. It seems like they went up 30-50 bucks per one way trip.

Plus they are getting you in little ways. Like for example, you use to be able to check a surfboard for free as sports equipment but now they charge 50 bucks per one one way (100 bucks extra). I use to like storing all my boards at my place but ever since they made that rule I have been forced to keep them at home in San Diego (which my dad isn't too happy about)

A snowboard, boot, and bindings bag is still free but we'll see how long that lasts. That isn't really that small or light either. I actually think it's on the whole more cumbersome then checking a surfboard.

You'll still get there on time with all your luggage though so pay it.

yeah, I think they went up because their fuel contract expired & they had to re-negotiate (w/ obvious higher prices).

I never fly delta for all the reasons you outline above. Constant problems.
