This is a public poll of who would like to play in the Fall CS flag football league on an Aggie Fans team.

The leagues is a 8 game round robin format on sunday evenings.

Yes - I can/will play
No - Just cant do it
Maybe - I want to but Im not sure.....

Answer accordingly so I have a good idea of who can/will/wont play.....

it would also be a good idea to just get together somewhere in a few weeks and just play a little touch football (or tackle). just to see what kinda of interest there is. just to get to know some of the people and what they can/cant do.

Safety (played in HS -- 7 years ago!)...or WR. Not a good QB.... :)

Stobie
07-27-2007, 07:11 PM
Sounds like we need a QB... I can throw... can be a trick QB.... such as Screen Back Pass QB

jagowar
07-27-2007, 07:18 PM
i can throw a little but hopefully there would be somebody better than me....

Thisjeffguy07
07-27-2007, 07:46 PM
i'd be a good LB spying on a QB if they try to rush and picking up guys that run routes across the middle on passing plays

i can throw, but not very far... WR is probably my best position on offense

i have a friend that works with me at the rec that might want in... i mentioned it to him, and he seemed somewhat interested :gig:

Stobie
07-30-2007, 12:39 PM
If anyone has friends... can you let me know by pm so I have an idea of total people... and we will have a sort of tryout session just to break the cobwebs, have fun, and just see what positions people would be best suited for.....

Basically if I remember right there are 3 linemen, 1 Qb... 1 RB/WR and 3 WR/Slot/Wideouts.... Just want to see who has speed, hands, cuts, ect..

jagowar
07-30-2007, 12:46 PM
honestly we should just pick a time and place just to have a bit of fun first (and get to meet some of you that havent come to the tailgates or are new). Maybe do it in conjunction with some tryouts. alot of football is just getting on the same page and playing for fun for a while would help.

Vlyrock
07-31-2007, 07:38 PM
80 yard fields, 10 yard endzones. Need 8 inch, non-duplicating numbers on the back. Must provide your own team ball. 20 yard first downs.

Thisjeffguy07
07-31-2007, 10:26 PM

jagowar
07-31-2007, 10:34 PM
from the little i read there is no timelimit and you have o linemen that can block (although its like little league flag football and non contact).

Im thinking the spread will go something like this...

1 QB
1 RB
2 WR
4 Line (of which 2 can be tight ends if we can use tight ends)

I really think having 2 tight ends will work better for the times we need good blocking and can run routes if needed.

Vlyrock
07-31-2007, 10:36 PM
so when's tryouts or the fun game?

jagowar
07-31-2007, 10:37 PM

Here is the break down of rules minus all bs...

The game shall be played between two teams of no more than eight (8) players each, on a rectangular field with a properly shaped, sized and inflated ball. b. A team may legally play with no fewer than six (6) players.

80 yards from goal line to goal line with two end zones of 10 yards each

It is recommended that teams use the Wilson Official NFL Ball or its equal. (Official NCAA or the R5) However, each team must provide an official size leather covered football, which is properly inflated.

: No jewelry of any kind may be worn by players. No headwear with an extended bill may be worn. (Ex: caps, visors. etc.). c. Jersey/Shirts: All members of the same team must wear the same color jersey with non-duplicating numbers including at least an eight (8) inch number on the back. The number on the front is recommended but not mandatory. Jerseys must be tucked in...No article of clothing may cover any portion of a player's flag....Shorts/Pants: Any shorts or pants worn during flag football league play must not have pockets located flags would normally hang from the flag belt....Shoes: Any flat soled or completely molded cleat shoes are acceptable. Removable cleats, baseball or track spikes or any shoes that have steel or metal tips are prohibited. All players must wear shoes....Flags - The "Sonic" type of flag belts are recommended, but the choice of type, material, and securing mechanism used shall be the choice of each local league or local tournament. The Adult and Youth Flag Football State Tournament teams must use the "sonic" type flag belts...Each player on the field (8 offensive and 8 defense) will wear 2 flags at the waist, one on each side. Flags must be attached to a belt and the belt will be worn snug around the waist to eliminate being turned partially around the waist during an attempted deflagging. The flags must be a minimum of 12 inches (flag itself) in length and 1 1/2 inches in width and must be a different color than the players lower uniform. It is preferred that teammates must wear the same color of flags. h. Gloves work by a player must be approved and inspected by game officials in the case any illegal substance has altered the gloves with the intent to enhance a player’s performance.

TAAF flag football is 8 men with everyone eligible. A team may field no less than 6 players at any time. b. Team Roster: Teams regular playing roster shall not exceed twenty (20) players including a playing manager....Eligibility: No player shall be permitted to play T.A.A.F. Flag Football if he is presently or has, during the current season, been a member of any semi-professional, (This includes arena football), high school varsity, B team, 9th grade, or college football team. Any player who has played professional football shall be ineligible to participate for one year after his last day as a member of a professional team.

When a backward pass hits the ground between the goal lines or a fumble occurs, the ball becomes dead and belongs to the team last in possession at the spot where the ball hits the ground or at the spot where the ball goes out of bounds (if in the air). b. When a forward fumble occurs and hit the ground, it is considered dead. The End of the Run in this case would return to the point and which control was lost or from where the fumble originated. If the offensive fumbles forward and crossed or hits the ground beyond the next line-to-gain or goal line, the result will bring the ball back to where the fumble occurred and next down will be played.

A team will be allowed four downs to advance the ball from one zone to the next. (A zone is to be 20 yards.) If after four (4) consecutive downs, a team has failed to advance the ball into the next zone, possession shall go to the defense at that spot.

Rushing is defined as the act of a defensive player pursuing the offensive player who is in possession of the ball. b. The rusher may not run over the screener. The rusher may not pull the screener toward him or push the screener away from him.

Each player is eligible, even if he steps out of bounds or out of end zone, as long as he catches the ball in bounds or comes down first in bounds with at least one (1) foot

Touchdown - 6 points (S-4) (Hips in which flags are attached must be on or in advance of the goal line before any points can be awarded.) b. Point After Touchdown - 1 point - run or pass from 3 yard line 2 point - run or pass from 10-yard line.

Nice, thanks. I'm good for the next weekend (not this one)

Stobie

After speaking with some of you, I know the most important part right now is cost...

The cheapest we can go is this route...

Fee - 375
Flags - 60
T Shirts - 100 for 18... (20 for transfer kit and 5 per shirt)

This comes out to around 585... if we have 18 players and no sponsors this would be 32.5 per player...

Thoughts... try to find sponsors :)

jagowar
08-02-2007, 12:41 PM
Im all about the sponsors.... I think we could pay some but 32 bucks is high.

i would go for 15 bucks if we get to keep the shirt... thats a pretty good deal. and then get the rest donated.

Vlyrock
08-02-2007, 01:14 PM
How do you reward the sponsors though? Obviously it'd be a logo on the shirt -- if that's the case, then the t-shirts can't be made the same way...they have to be professionally printed...

That is true.... here how the hunt goes so far...

Buffalo Wild Wings - Have to talk to GM tommorrow...
Canes - Have to talk to corp office... (Slim Chance)
Papa Murphy's Pizza - Cant do sponsor, but can do fundraiser.... Buy 50 cent coupon books from them, sell them for what ever... keep 4.50.... But nice thing is what we do not sell we can get them to buy them back for .50 a piece... not too bad.

Any more places people can think, and I will call to figure out.

Double Dave's. The guy there has sponsored our contests and is pretty cool Ag. I think his last name is Deo or something like that.

Vlyrock
08-02-2007, 02:11 PM
Also, you may want to consider contacting the bookstores in College Station -- not sure of their stance on sponsorship, but it can't hurt.

jagowar
08-02-2007, 02:21 PM
another good idea is to go to the southwood little league fields and look at the businesses that advertise on the outfield fence (if they are still up). usually businesses who advertise for little league are the ones who would sponsor a flag football team.

Current Update :

BWW : Talked to GM have to go through the regional office.
Canes : Same Thing
Double Daves : Have to go through their advertising office.

So If people have connections or if people can help out that would be great... We dont need shirts made worst case can just get a tshirt with spray paint.

Put post with ideas, or pm me... otherwise the way it looks is 32$ per person if we have 18... less than 18 then more $....

do the rules say anything about flag guarding (slapping the defenders hands away)? Some leagues have it and some don't.

Stobie
08-11-2007, 05:50 PM
I remember there were rules against it.... so no flag guarding.

jagowar
08-11-2007, 05:57 PM
just wondering but do the rules say anything about the 8 playing? IE could we have people sub in and out. Say and offensive team and a defensive side where we would have some breaks. Thats what killed me today is having very little time off. (and I am in horrible shape but thats part of the reason I want to do this is to help get inro some sort of shape again)

Stobie
08-11-2007, 08:11 PM
The rules are not specific on subs... but imo its just like regular game, sub at will just in between plays and I encourage subs. Keep fresh legs out there... nothing worse in getting burned deep bc you were too tired...

jagowar
08-11-2007, 08:27 PM
yeah... and we got burned plenty of times today which is what i was getting at. we should keep our receivers and dbacks separate if we can manage enough people.
