Just what we need. More negative publicity around our student athlete degree programs.

STUDENTS Should Show Respect
In response to the Mail Call letter written by Jessica Hendrix…
Get a life honey. And I say this not only to you but to all the other “student-athlete bashers” out there. First off, I should address why you are just now taking ENDS 149 but I’ll leave that up to the imaginations of the readers. Secondly, if you have never seen “such behavior” in a classroom and you’re a senior, then one of two things is going on. You are either lying through your teeth (and keyboard) or you have never once been to a single class ever in your entire collegiate career. Personally, I have seen several people sleeping in class including myself and Corps of Cadets members. And let’s not talk about the countless number of people who sleep in, show up late for or simply don’t show up to class on Friday after a long night at the Gate. As far as chatter… Give me a break!! You mean to tell me that you’ve never once talked in class during lecture?? Stop the madness! I have also, on several occasions, seen students leave class to answer or make a phone call. I mean seriously, I’ve seen students talk on their phones IN class DURING lecture with no regard to the professor or those sitting around him or her.
Basically, the point that I’m trying to get at by voiding every one of yours is that the only unacceptable behavior here is yours for thinking that this letter was critical for the student body to read. If you are truly in class to learn, then somebody sleeping in the corner or leaving class to talk on their phone shouldn’t be a primary concern. If anything, your letter made Dr. Klein look as though she’s a professor that is not capable of keeping order over her class. Not only that, but you made yourself look jealous and ignorant of what you “think” athletes can get away with. The only way that your letter could possibly be made valid is to address students in general and not just student athletes. We are all guilty of disrupting class in one way or another, whether it’s walking in late, leaving early, or one of the many things you’ve listed. So once again, I beseech you, get a life.

I do like the idea of actually laying down to take a nap. That's something I never thought of. When I slept in class I layed my arms my on my elbows and propped my head up. It's usually uncomfortable after 30 minutes or so and your elbows hurt. But maybe bringing your own little pillow and laying down would make that much easier. You could always just stare straight up and still be able to hear the professor or even maybe contribute to a class discussion.

Laying down would make it much easier on our football players. They work hard enough on the field in practice so they need to take advantage of a little class time to catch up on sleep. They need rest to bring us a MNC!!!!

I took that class, and it is not really that boring. But then again, I was always tired in the class. And took the usual 10 min power nap during lecture... but lets first look at where this class is held... STADIUM seating auditorium... Langford Building B... and School of Architecture student or anyone who has taken a class in there can vouch for the comfort levels...

I am just glad they are going to class. That is something I rarely did.

i think its funny how people get all upset over this (not sayin you mr wade)... People sleep in class all the time- big deal, no one cares except for nerdy kids who secretly wish they could throw all their cares away and walk on the wild side by takin a nap in class ;)

If any one group of students at Texas A&M has a problem with sleeping in class, it's the Corps.

The Batt will never change, one group at A&M bitching at another group and trying to shame them.

Sleeping on the floor and talking on the phone in class is just extreme. What's the point in going then? Everybody at some point has had trouble staying awake or has been put to sleep by a professor.

I don't want to codone sleeping in class or goofing off, but it sounds to me like the teacher doesn't have control of the class. I bet there are more than just athletes screwing around. Sounds to me like the chick who wrote this letter probably doesn't like athletes and feels that they get preferential treatment. As a former architect major at A&M I can tell you there are more "two percenters" and "idealistic liberal weirdos" in the architecture dept than the whole rest of A&M combined. Plus, ENDS 149 is architectural history, a BS course, which these guys are probably being forced to take and could care less. I question the legitimacy of "epic carnival" as well, the fact that they would post this like it's some huge news that athletes goof off in class is just a clear ploy to smear our university's good name. Just because this is happening in one class doesn't mean it's happening in every class on campus. :stupid:

Showing my age....I took a speech comm class with Bucky Richardson, yep that Bucky! Nice guy, not as big a dude as I would have though. He was a pretty good student. His presuasive speech was on why student athletes should get paid. Anyway, thought I'd through that in, some actually do take class seriously. :gig:

Who cares? There are plenty of people besides athletes that sleep in class. Like me for instance.
