of your high school graduating class? I am asking because it seems the only way to get into A&M from the start is to be in the top 10%. Or, score 1300 on the SAT and be in the top 25%. Is it true?

Yup

Not even close

Actually, you only have to be top 50% with a 1300 SAT to get automatic admission. That's how it was in 2004, when I was admitted (I was #84 out 292 in my graduating class, definitely not top 25%). I took the SAT 3 times (1240, 1260 and then finally a 1300).

Good thing I got in during the 80's.

I was like in the top 11% and got an 1140, but that was on the old SAT test, so I don't know about now.

You would think the someone who is number one in his class wouldn't have to ask for someone to check his math. ;)

yeah well, lol. I'm proud of it because I was number 2 like all of high school, but my senior year I turned on the jets and pulled through in the end.

Yep, top 10% and a high SAT and ACT score.

Nope, but a 30 on the act got me in.

SAT's? I didn't have to take it because I had military time instead of it.

uh....what was the question again?

legelegel

uh....what was the question again?

The first question was: Were all of you in the top 10% of your high school graduating class?

I would have to say that the collective answer to that question would be no. My personal answer would be yes.

The second question had to do with an applicant's high school class ranking and SAT score that is required for current admission to Texas A&M University.

I cannot answer the last question for you at this moment.

This should answer question number two on freshman admission requirements:

There are several ways to be admitted into Texas A&M as a freshman. Read carefully to see which method applies to you.

Top 10% Admits*
Applicants qualify for automatic Top 10% admission, if:

they attend a recognized public or private high school within the state of Texas,
rank in the top 10% of their graduating class, and
ensure all required credentials are received by the freshman closing date.Academic Admits
Applicants qualify for automatic academic admission, if:

they are ranked in the top quarter of their graduating class,
achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components; or achieve a composite ACT score of at least 30 with a test score of at least 27 in ACT Math and ACT English. Students must take the writing component of the SAT and/or ACT in order for the test score to be considered,
have successfully taken all recommended course work,
ensure all required credentials are received by the freshman closing date.* If you are a Texas resident in an out-of-state school you are also eligible for top 10% admission at Texas A&M University. You must submit a residency questionnaire so that your residency status may be determined. This may take a little longer, but you also will be admitted as soon as possible. Choice of major preference will be given to the top 10% and academic admission applicants who submit their admission application with all required documents by December 1, 2006.

AggieFrog

Yes - 2nd in a class of around 400 + 1330 SAT... of course, that was before the top 10% rule (applied fall '95). Back then, 1300 + top half was an auto admit... the same as t.u. at the time.

Lets just say I made some mistakes but I still got accepted in the Comp Engineering department.... But... Some how ended in Architecture...

Loftin

Wow, the requirement of top 25% w/ 1300 SAT is new. I only needed to be top half in 2004. Texas A&M wouldn't take me if I had just graduated high school this year...

s_murph12

I wasn't even close to the top ten percent. For those of you who want to get in but don't have the grades, go to a junior college or a lesser university such as UT-Arlington or Texas Tech for a year or two and manitain at least a 3.5. That's how I got in.

SAT's? I didn't have to take it because I had military time instead of it.

How does that work? I plan on going to A&M when I get out and that would be bad-ass if I don't have to take the SAT.

Thisjeffguy07

i was around the top 11%

but i got a 1420 on the SAT my freshman year, so I was in

I could have been in the top 10% but i didn't study or do any homework AT ALL

I didn't do any work outside of school, because i knew i was already automatic :gig:

Not knowing what the numbers for the new SATs compared to the one I took in 1990, it is difficult to determine what one number is compared to another.

I was in the top 11% and made a 1300 SAT back in 1994. I missed the top 10 because I didn't take Honors English my Soph, Jr, and Sr years in high school. All the rest of my classes I was in honors. I made like a 26 on ACT.

I had a 1350 or 1360 on my SAT, which was really important at the time since I was BARELY top 10%. 47/554 in the end, and that's only because I took Art 1 my Junior year in high school.

BTW, when I was an RA most of residents were not top 10% and still got in. Take the SAT or ACT more than once. If I didn't make above a 1300 my first time I was definently going to take it again.

PS: Top 10% is a good rule, but some of the smartest people I know were top half or 25%. At a lot of schools being top 10% doesn't make you a genius.
