Just remember the next time you're paying $3 a gallon to pump gas, that we are saving the beluga whale and polar bear.

No, I will think of George Bush...and all of his oil buddies.

Sometimes I wonder if people actually understand the concept of global supply and demand and how OPEC works.

I don't really care, its the damn Chinese's fault first of all. Also, I barely have a job and can afford gas without giving it much thought. I'm perfectly fine with saving the whale and polar bear too.

PS: I didn't read the article.

I understand supply and demand very well. However, gasoline prices could be regulated.
Also, I don't know what happen to the concept (usually a hawkish concept) that when country A kicks the sh*t out of country B, country A takes all the spoils. In our scenario, OIL. Instead, we (Bush, et. al.(other presidents) make side deals. If we need oil, we take oil. Especially if, (according to George) you harbor terrorists and the famous weapons of mass destruction (I could hardly type it because it was so scary). The whole middle east, once again according to Georgy harbors terrorist so why don't we just settle the issue.

If bush took Iraq's oil, he'd have a much lower approval rating. People would say that he went to war for oil.

But regulation would not stop at just gas.

They say that anyway. He's a lame duck, anyway, so why should his approval ratings (which suck, regardless) matter?

Gas prices are getting higher because of stringent EPA rules, not because of President Bush:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,170823,00.html (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,170823,00.html)

If Bush can be blamed for anything it's not taking control of the EPA. However, the new more stringent rules came into effect under the Clinton administration before Bush even got into office, so there's not much Bush could do. Blame the liberals trying to keep us out of Alaska, and blame the liberals who are running the EPA for our high gas prices.

The fact that there hasn't been any new gasoline refineries built since the 70's but that gas supply has increased every single year says a lot of why gas prices are so high and how just 1 or 2 refineries shutting down can cause a spike in gas prices.

Add in that fact that the Chinese are guzzling up as much oil as they can, Venezuela being taken over by socialists who hate the US, and Russia going back to the old guard who wants to stifle free enterprise the world market is going to hell in a hand basket.

I also wonder if people realize that the US pays the LOWEST gas prices in the free world and yet people still bitch about gas prices.

winner, winner, chicken dinner. :gig:

Right now its a demand driven market. Many developing countries are need alot more oil, not just china. That said we have plenty of oil, however between people pushing ethanol and other fuels, big companies don't want to fight to build a refrinery only to have ethonol pan out in ten years and gas drop so low they can't make money.

If you want price regualtion, go live in a different country. Price regulation, causes rationing products. :bored:

All very good points, especially the last.

yeah, we bitch about rising gas costs...yet few of us really care to change our lifestyle (carpool more, drive slower, etc)...

I'm sure many of you complaining about the rising costs have actually ridden the public transportation system...

less people using gas=less profit=innovation...

I think most Americans do not realize how lucky they are to be Americans. We're too preocupied with our ipods and griping about our gas prices to realize how good we have it compared to other less fortunate countries.

How do those people that want federal limits on GAS prices want the people producing the gas to buy the oil that goes into it?
