This will be freaking huge if true. IMO, it will be way worse than Pete Rose betting on baseball while managing.

The FBI is investigating allegations that a veteran NBA referee bet on basketball games over the past two seasons, including ones in which he officiated.

oh-ohhh...
this will definitely tarnish the otherwise "clean" image of the NBA.

It sure would explain the bad officiating.

Was that ever confirmed? Not that I am doubting you, but I never remember them saying with 100% certainty that he never bet against his team.

1. Let Mavs beat the Heat the first two games.
2. When the Heat become longshots, you put large sums on Heat
3. Profit

How about putting lots of cash on Golden State to beat the Mavs!

I heard this at lunch on ESPN radio. No telling how much money this ref pocketed if this is true.

I thought Rose himself and the Dowd report both confirmed it. I could be wrong though

Rose himself confirmed it? What would you expect him to say? I highly doubt that he would admit to betting against his own team. Especially when he is trying to get back into baseball and the hall of fame.

way to leave out what else I mentioned...the Dowd Report which holds considerable more weight. Do you know what the Dowd report is??
My first step was to show Rose himself gave testimony (which I said and you decided to attack)...then I moved my arguement to the Dowd report (which you did not even address).
Like I said I could be wrong, but I thought the Dowd report said through interviews, books, and records collected he only bet for the Reds to win.
And in the Black Sox Scandal 2 players (Jackson and Cicotte) did admit they bet against their team...so it is not unprecented to have some admit that (which you "higly doubt" someone would do)

side note
did you know Mantle and Willie Mays were banned from organized baseball because they worked at Casinos after they retired...it was obviously later lifted

There is no need for you to get so excited. I was not dismissing anything you said. Just simply stating that I would doubt Rose would admit to betting on his team to lose. Especially the way he has handled this from the beginning. I was not going after what you said or attacking you.
And yes, I know what the Dowd report is.

I agree he may not admit it...but his best chance for reinstatment was to come completely clean on saying who he bet on and against.

I agree that he needs to come clean, but he should have done it years ago. Now anything he says will be scrutinized because of how long it has taken him. He also needed to find another avenue to admit to his gambling rather than writing a book. Shows little remorse when you are making money of your admittance.
Don't get me wrong, I think Rose should be reinstated into baseball. There are a lot of other players who have done more harm to baseball and never given a lifetime ban. Rose was a great player and should be in the hall of fame. It is my understanding he only bet on baseball as a manager. If that is the case, then let him in the hall as a player, but not a manager.

NBA referee Tim Donaghy is under investigation by the FBI for allegations that he bet on games that he officiated over the past two seasons and that he made calls affecting the point spread in games, multiple sources told ESPN.
Donaghy, a 13-year veteran of the league, is aware of the investigation and resigned from the NBA recently.
it was this guy

I was just about to post that Polish. Pretty ironic that the guy that is under investigation unexpectedly resigns.

The report I read on CNN stated that he resigned due to the investigation and that he planned on turning himself into authorities next week.

All I know is that if I was an NBA ref and allegations this serious were brought up against me, and I was INNOCENT, I would NOT resign. Resigning makes himself look guilty.

They said it's happened over the past 2 seasons.
If you're David Stern, what do you do now to try to "repair" the image? What could they have done to catch this?
Surely they review officiating results, so did they not catch that he was calling phantom calls -- or does this further prove that fouls happen all the time and only get called when the refs want to call them?

I heard the same thing on CNN. This could get really ugly and very interesting.
I wonder if there are some holes being dug in the desert right now?

The NBA had hired PI's to investigate this guy's gambling habits (not sure when). Sounds like they have known or suspected this for a while.

He's been getting death threats & is said to be cooperating with the Cops.....
It's being rumored that other Refs, some players & a few coaches could all be brought down with him...... :wow:
If that happens & it's found out that he is just a small part of a large group within the NBA that just happens to work with the MOB... The NBA will take a hit that it wont recover from..... It will be looked at as nothing more than just another version of Wrestling, where the winner is already pre-determined...

If this ref is smart, he will cut a deal and rat out everyone. Being the first to get in nailed for this might work to his advantage since he can give names of everyone else and lessen his punishment.
