Well, its time for me to officially stick a fork in the disAstros. I thought they could get things together and make a run, but it ain't gonna happen. When they pitch well, they don't hit. When they score a bunch of runs, the pitchers give up more. They have most of the pieces to have a great team, but they are just not fitting together right now.

Drayton and Purpura need to shop Lidge, Wheeler, Qualls, Ensberg, Loretta, and maybe even Scott/Lamb on the market and see what they can get from a contender. I'm sure they could package a few of these players and get some nice prospects for the future.

Braves are pushing for Lidge hard

Drayton needs to fire Pupura, he sucks

The Red Sox also are looking hard at Lidge, Wheeler, and Qualls and are willing to give up Crisp to get them. Not sure how I would feel about getting Crisp, unless they plan to play him in RF.

That sucks, he not a good OF, and hes not a good leadoff like you'd think with that speed. Taveras and Hirsh for Jennings trade was stupid. Fire Pupura before he does this trade

Red Sox and Mets are pusing for Oswalt....the Sox sound like they will give up a ton...and the Mets keep dangling Lastings milledge but his value is diminishing

I honest think Lidge has turned the conror and is back to the Lidge of a couple years ago. Plus we control him through arbitration for another year so he will be cheap compared to other closers. We have already said Oswalt is off limits.

No one wants Ensberg or he would be gone already. I think we should move scott, lamb, loretta, wheeler, maybe even wandy (if we can get value for a cheap cheap young left, and call up patton now)

You're right Polish. Can you imagine how good our OF would be with Taveras, Lee, and Pence? That would be sick.

I wonder if Hunsecker (sp?) would come back?

Houston will NOT trade Oswalt under any circumstances.

I think it was a good trade...Jennings got hurt and is just now starting to come back...he hada few great starts before he got hurt. Taveras is a flash in the pan and 3 years from now will not be an everyday player, Hirsh was the key piece to the deal but you have to give up talent to get talent.

But I do agree papsmear needs to be shown the door

preferably one that he doesn't have to pitch to Pujols ever again.

Taveras is a flash in the pan and 3 years from now will not be an everyday player,

I still think the trade was a good deal (especially at the time). Still, Willy Taveras is actually much better than you think. He's much better than I thought too.

How many flash in the pans hit for a high average (.292) and steal 100 bases in their first 3 full seasons?

Taveras is also playing his best ball to date boasting .320 average with 24 stolen bases. Also has 21 RBIs in the leadoff spot (75 games that's not bad for an NL player).

So he's got the 11th highest average in the league, 6th in stolen bases, 7 outfield assists and .990 fielding % in center. Oh yeah, he's also 25 years old.

Willy T is good. That's another reason why the ROCKIES are over .500 and the Astros are LAST in the CENTRAL division.

Oswalt: Not going to be traded. That would be ridiculus.
Ensberg: Pretty worthless. The Royals probably wouldn't take him.
Wandy: Who? If you could get one solid relief pitcher for this guy I'd take it in a New York minute. He is not good.
Pence: Next future stud? Don't trade
Berkman: Trade bait in my opinion, although it would have to be a BLOCKBUSTER deal.

Keep:

Oswalt, Pence, Lee, Berkman

Make me an offer on the rest.

Throw Berkman on the offer list. I know he is one of the best hitters around, but maybe someone is looking for a guy like this at first. I can think of a few teams that need a first baseman and have something to give.

I think berkman has a no trade clause...and seeing he is a local boy I don't see him waving it...plus he is locked up for a few more yeas.

Oswalt, Lee, and Berkman all have no trade clauses I think. None of them seem likely to waive them. Oswalt might for the right team but then why would the Astros trade him. Then your left with a bunch of 5th spot pitchers trying to fill the first four spots of the rotation.

What does it matter anyway. The trade deadline looms even closer and we haven't made one move.

Seems like Timmy thinks we are a contender and doesn't want to trade anyone. At least that will make it easy at the end of the season to pick someone to fire.

Let me be real clear if no one is traded by the trade deadline then TP should lose his job.

Pflugerville Ag

There will be no moves until right up to the end of the trade deadline. No need to rush to anything.

Anyone that thinks Berkman should go is insane. He is the next Biggio/Bagwell type player that will play his entire career in Houston.
