Yeah, it's early, but why not? What's your pick?

Nobody will like my vote.

Gotta vote A&M.

OU and Texas, though still strong, won't be as good as they were last year. The Aggies will be better, and Tech will never win less than 6 or more than 8 games in any season.

OU is the next most likely, then Texas.

Interesting fact:

In every year since it was formed, the Big 12 champion has been from the North in odd-numbered years and from the South in even-numbered years.

1996 - Texas
1997 - Nebraska
1998 - Texas A&M
1999 - Nebraska
2000 - Oklahoma
2001 - Colorado
2002 - Oklahoma
2003 - Kansas State
2004 - Oklahoma

If the pattern continues, who will be the 2005 upset?

Great stat...Kansas was turning around their program last year...but I'd take Iowa State.

I have to go with the Ags I just can't go against them. If its not the Ags its the Sooners, I just don't think any team from the North has any real chance of beating the South Winner. As for t.u. if they some how make it to the game they'll choke.

A&M

I find it hilarious that many of our rivals laugh or scream and cry about us thinking we can't win it when we were in contention quite far into the season last year.

Seems laughing/crying is their way of not being able to have an intelligent conversation about it.

Is it possible the Aggies can beat the Bears this year?

Vlyrock
04-26-2005, 07:58 AM
I'm going to have to say yes. And I think Texas is in for a shock when they travel to Columbus. Having Ohio State and Oklahoma in your first 6 games isn't easy...and 2 losses early can hurt their chances the rest of the way (poor morale, poor performance)...

But yeah, we'll handle the Bears this time.

What's up Express. I would say we have a better chance of beating BU, than you do of beating OU, just kidding couldn't resist :p . So obviously you think your horns will win. Discuss, why? who replaces Cedric? what's your D going to be like, without DJ? etc?

I don't think it is unreasonable to say the Ags have a chance. This is year 3 under Fran's system. Our D-line is stellar, Reggie should have a fantastic year, looks like we finally have the horses for an above average running game, and we are staked at receiver. Sure we have a few areas of concern, who doesn't though, but I don't think we are delusional in thinking we have as good a shot as anyone.

Oh, one more thing about BU, I don't know who but they will upset someone this year, I just have a gut feeling. The Big XII is getting to a point that you better bring your A game every saturday, no matter who you're playing or you're going to get slapped with a L.

Did Texas beat Baylor the year they got beaten by them?

It'll take a while live down Baylor, but we shall be better for it. Now when the scrubs come to town Fran will say remember Baylor and that will take out the overconfidence

Who the hell voted for Tech?

Vlyrock

We have one Tech guy who came over early on the boards...he voted on it.

He was immediately banned. :D (just kidding...)

I don't even know his username...but I know he hasn't been around for a while.

Bet you were expecting a vote for OSU out of me, eh? Nope -- no sunshine to pump yet. Right now, I have to say TX unfortunately. I honestly just think they are due. Hope I'm wrong though. aTm or OSU would be nice...

Maroon glasses aside, I just don't think Vince Young is a good enough quarterback to get them through a whole Big 12 season without an L. I can say he's a good athlete, but basically, to win the Big 12 (coming out of the South), you have to basically go undefeated or have one loss.

Texas had one loss last year, but probably should have had 3 (Kansas and OSU). If he didn't make 19 yards on that run on 4th down against Kansas, they wouldn't have had a shot at the last second TD...or if OSU didn't totally collapse in the second half...they would never have had a chance to go and claim the stupid Rose Bowl win (although they did win, so we have to give 'em credit for it).

I'm not expecting them to roll easily over opponents, especially after losing C-Bong. The RB is from the town I'm living right now, and he's good, but I don't know if he can step in and fill those shoes right away. VY has a depleted WR corps. And, even if they get through OU this year, I can see them dropping one to Tech, A&M, or somebody like OSU, Mizzou, or Colorado.

The thing about Vince Young is that he's a great athlete, but not a great QB. This sometimes works in college, just putting the ball into the best athlete's hands, but I think a passing game will be mandatory now that Benson is gone and VY just doesn't have it in him.

While Reggie takes over the starting QB position for an NFL franchise 2-3 seasons into his career, VY will still be returning punts. Don't get me wrong, though, he will be good at it. He might be the next Bethel Johnson.

I voted for Tech. I really think the raiders can play good enough defense this year to win it.

No way. You will be eaten alive in Austin this year. They pretty much trounced TT in Lubbock last year.

Tech winning a championship will not come to pass.

Tech's Pass D is pretty good but your upfront defense is beyond TERRIBLE.

You couldn't stop my grandmother from running all over you all.

We'll see how it plays out. The front seven will be better than last year and Tech will play better in Austin.

Lonnie75
05-15-2005, 11:49 PM
That is true...now Tech will only have to chase VY all over the field as opposed to having to worry about both VY and C Bong.

A&M should win. The real question is who is going to win the north. you can narrow it down to 2 or 3 in the south but all 6 have a shot at it in the north

As I've said before on this site. Texas will still be strong even with the loss of two of the NCAA’s best players last year.

On Offense we have almost the entire O-line returning this year. This is the same line that led the NCAA in rushing last year at least two of them are going to go in the first two rounds of the draft. Young has only gotten better if he stays healthy and his receivers hold on to the ball he will be a Heinemann contender, at Fullback we are starting an Ex-Marine Sergeant HOOOORA!

On Defense we are returning all but one of our starters. The D line is all coming back and Rodriq Wright has just been named to the Pre Season All American team. Our middle line backer who dominated the Rose bowl last year is coming back and look for him to be the new leader of this D. Our Front 7 is solid. According to Sports Illustrated big 12 quarterbacks will be up at night thinking about our pass rush.
The secondary is has only gotten better and it will benefit greatly from the Long Horn Pass Rush.

That is why I think this is our year to beat OU and our year to take the Big 12!

HOOK ‘em Horns!

Tech is gradually getting better and I think we'll have some momentum heading into the conference season. I know OU is not as loaded this year but I don't think they should be overlooked. If a north team wins it this year I would vote for doing away with the championship game as soon as the current media contract expires. I think the top 4 teams in the south all have legitimate chances at this point.
