View Full Version : Big 12 Commish unexpectedly quits

Surprised that I was the first to post this. Big 12 commissioner, Kevin Weiberg, announced today that he is quitting next month to take a job with the Big 10 network. First off, I am glad to see him go. This guy sucked at marketing the conference, especially in basketball. Second, and more importantly, it really pisses me off and seems like a serious conflict of interest that he is taking a job with the Big 10 Network after renegotiating the Big 12 TV deal (which he did a very bad job of). If he knew of this Big 10 job, it was in his best interest to sign the Big 12 up to a bad deal.

For those not familiar with the Big 10 Network, it is the privately run cable/satellite package that shows every Big 10 sporting event.

No replies? I thought this would be a good topic for discussion.

Well that is a stupid thing to say since we were a better team in every major sport this year!

I am glad he is gone. They sold us out to ABC and friends instead setting up the Big 12 network. My view of the future back when was to have this network and have all the Big 12 games on TV weekly for football. I would be happy to pay a fee to Directv or Dish if I knew I could watch every game. We could also see every basketball and baseball game.

That's how ugly they are... despite the Ags winning everything... he couldn't stand the sight of them anymore...

I think he was referring to their uniforms.

Yeah, I realize that now b/c I hadn't seen his other post when I posted that.

P-ville....you should know by now, outside of a very few, people on here don't want to have intelligent discussions. They want to start threads about fictional characters winning fights or if you heard something.

I can't believe that jack ass would have the audacity to pull this. Like most of y'all, I'm glad he is gone, but he clearly did all he can to screw over the conference. "Here you go, got you some games on Versus....see ya later, suckers." I'm wondering if the Big XII can opt out of this new contract. It wasn't more than a month ago that we inked that deal right. Or maybe we can pull a TKC & we only agreed to the contract, but no one actually signed it yet.

Yeah Dustin, I'm a little surprised that noone else wanted to talk about this story. I even went over to Texags to see what they had to say about it (hadn't posted over there in over a year) and noone there cares about what he did either.

I care but what can we do about it?

sorry...I'm in Destin this weekend so the intelligent conversation will probably be held back a little ;)

1) very good first post pflug...everything you addressed, I have the same concerns...

2) conflict of interest? did he intentionally "soft negotiate" a sub-par ctx for the b12 knowing he was going to take the other job?

3) there's way too much silence in the media about this...I'd like to see some good investigative journalism surrounding this...

Good point White about the media not doing much about this. As much as the media loves to make something out of nothing, this would be a perfect opportunity to make something out of something for a change.
