Not that we didn't really know this already, but L$U has officially said that they want to play us in 2008, but that Byrne told them to fu** off. Thoughts? Would you guys want to play them again in an OOC game? I can see both sides of it. It would be a blast for the fans to play them every year (either rotate home games or keep it in Houston at Reliant), but it would also make recruiting against them a little tougher.

At the top of Ausberry’s list: Texas A&M. Unfortunately, he said, A&M Athletic Director Bill Byrne isn’t biting.

Byrne’s contention, according to Ausberry, is LSU’s decision in the 1990s to cancel the final two years of the contract between the two schools set for 1996 and 1997.
The Tigers and Aggies played home-and-home from 1985-95 but haven’t met since in football — not even in a bowl game.

“He said people there have long memories,” Ausberry said

I would love for the Ags to play them.....

Hell we had FSU scheduled, we have Miami right now.... I would love for the Big 12 to go around & start picking on the other BCS conferences & start playing them....

Man up & put your helmet where your mouth is....

A&M vs LSU would be great... although winning at their place would be a bytch... I think the Ags could take em at Kyle by 10 points.... JMO.....

NO SCORE PREDICTION!!
A&M WINS PERIOD!!!!!!!!

I think it'd be awesome and necessary to be considered an elite program

I would like to see it played every year.... would give us that one "marquee" game every year.

That said im sure byrne/fran would be scared sh%wwtless to play those guys right now. We still need a few more years to get back to a point where we could beat every year. No need to play this game when we would just get our asses kicked every year (like we would have the past 5 yrs)

SA, why would it be necessary to be an elite program? Plenty of elite programs never play anyone in OOC games.

Yeah, I agree. Put the past behind and let's play them. Our non-conference is historically a joke. I'm glad were playing Miami but we need to start getting more teams in there. If LSU wants to play us I say let's tack them on.

But this would make us super elite. Sorta like how USC has stepped and played Nebraska, tu played ohio state, notre dame plays the service academies ;)

I wish we would bring that series back. It was one of the greatest OOC match-ups there was.

SA, no way you can include t.u. in that list of having a hard OOC schedule. The tOSU series was the first tough OOC game they have played in a long freaking time.

Wade,
What team do you follow? How is our OOC schedule "historically a joke?" In the last 10 years, we have played Florida State, Notre Dame, Pittsburg, Va Tech, Utah, Clemson, and now Miami. Plus, Florida State backed out of a series. That is no joke of an OOC schedule.

Didn't Utah go undefeated the year we played them?

Superaggie79
05-30-2007, 10:52 AM
yes but it still wasn't a name team to play when we played them. When we scheduled them they were just another win marked up for us.

Pflugerville Ag
05-30-2007, 10:57 AM
SA, you are showing some serious ignorance. Utah, Clemson, and Pittsburg were all ranked teams when we played them.

Superaggie79
05-30-2007, 10:59 AM
And other than Utah (who I explained we scheduled as a "W" the fact they did so well was a surprise) how did they perform? And they're not a "name" team on a national level. Clemson is notorious for under achieving and without Fitzgerald Pitt would be nobody. Scheduling so far in advance those aren't that impressive of games.

Superaggie79
05-30-2007, 11:01 AM
Also if you do some research. Pitt wasn't ranked when we lost to them Utah was 19 and Clemson was 25.

Dustin00whoop

So now the OOC schedule & the quality of it has to do with intent? I know they were all ranked teams, but we didn't expect them to be ranked when we scheduled them, so our OOC schedule sucks!

If you schedule a team with the understanding that the teams won't be very tough than that doesn't speak much for our scheduling.

Pflugerville Ag
05-30-2007, 11:02 AM
For teams that were not "name teams on a national level," kinda funny that they were nationally telelvised ESPN/ABC/TBS games. I guess TV execs normally likes to telelvise a bunch of no name teams for their marquee games, don't they?

I for one want to see us play L$U each year or atleast put them on the schedule for a home and away game. The ONLY bad thing about the whole ordeal is that L$U gains more from this than we do. They dont have a whole lot of problems recruiting Texas players. And no the flip side theres not tons of talent in LA for us to impress as we trip to play them there in LA

But schedule it for the 3rd or 4th game each year in our OOC and that would be great

in order to achieve a MNC you must have a great OOC schedule, so my answer is "both"

we need a Miami or a L$U on our schedule (not both) each year

You don't need a stellar OOC schedule to win a MNC if you are in the Big 12. Run the table and chances are, you will be playing for a MNC. Go ahead and point out that Auburn got screwed a few years ago, but that is not going to happen very often. I want the ags to win a national championship and am willing to sacrifice a super hard OOC schedule to do so.

Yes Auburn and any year that we damn near had a 3 undefeated or 3-one loss teams

Run the tables with a butter milk OOC schedule decent chance

run the table with one tough OCC and theres no question

In order to win a MNC you need to have one "tough" OOC game! I wouldn't consider one OOC game with two or three cupcakes to be a stellar OOC schedule, but maybe you would! Bottom line is, you aren't going to win a MNC by scheduling two big name teams & two middle-of-the-road teams!

One team is undefeated.... Say USC and A&M, L$U, Florida and ARK all have one loss

Does the maroon and white get to play the undefeated team for the MNC?

Past National Champs OOC
Florida: FSU, W. Carolina, Southern Miss, UCF
Texas: Ulala, tOSU, Rice
USC: VaTech, BYU, Notre Dame, Colorado State
LSU: LaMonroe, Arizona, Western Illinois, LaTech
tOSU:T Tech, Wazzu, Kent State, Cinci, San Diego State

as soon as we go undefeated with nothing but cup cakes and get run out of the big game due to FL, USC, or MICH being undefeated then Ill come back and say

I gotta tip my hat off to LSU for even talking to A&M about it.....

Folks always bash the SEC for not playing anyone OOC, I know I have heard several on here to include myself of the same...

Part of me kinda feels jipped because they came calling & A&M is saying no....

It would be nice to see the SEC play better teams...

But this goes back to my solution for that..... Whoever you play in a bowl game... you play them the following year in your OOC schedule with winner of said bowl game getting home field for that game......:gig:

I am 100% against playing LSU OOC. They backed out of our deal when our program reached its' peak and theirs was dropping. And now that we have Fran and they are a perennial top 10 team, they want to play us? Screw that!

I am all for us making our OOC schedule better. Playing Miami for 2 years is a great start. However, I wouldn't play LSU anywhere outside of College Station unless they pony up some(lots) reparation money.

Interesting, all the factors seem to be in LSU's favor and now they want to play. Yep we have long memories in TX and people in LA have short ones. I vividly recall the games LSU came to Kyle, I also recall a player, Harvey Williams (RB), that pulled a Perioulx on us, bad blood between the schools back then.

I would love to see a home and home series with LSU.

Historically good rivalry...my dad has stories of the games he went to in Baton Rouge in the 60's.

I don't want to give LSU a free pass to have unofficial visits easily done in Houston while we can officially host recruits during home game years.

Seeing a game as a visiting fan in Death Valley is a pain the arse but its still a good time.

I'm all for as many big games as possible. I would imagine both would stand a good chance of being night games on ESPN, especially the road game.

IMO you can't be a great team without a great schedule. I say play all comers.
