For those interested, here is a list of prospects, both HS and juco, that are either considering TAMU, will be or have visited the Aggies, or in some fashion have been mentioned as possible Aggie recruits.
Rekalin Sims, 6'8" Forward, from Salt Lake Community College, he is deciding between us and Kentucky. This guy is supposed to be a superstar. The fact that we are competing against the Wildcats for a BB prospect says a bunch about the prospect and about how far our program has come under BCG.
Eddie Smith, 6'2" PG, from Moberly Area Community College. He is considered by many to be either the top or second in line PG in the juco's. Also recruiting this kid are Missouri, Colorado, and K-State. The story on this kid is that he would only have one year left of eligibility, but they could apply for a hardship and restore one more year, so conceivably he could have two years left. Snyder from Misso, is recruiting this kid hard.
Mario Boggan, 6'7", from Chipola Community College (FL). I think he has visited us and will also visit Cinnicinati among others. This kid was very highly rated out of high school and signed with Florida. He had weight issues and ballooned up to above 300 lbs. and transferred to Chipola. Apparently he has got things squared away and is a force. Again, if Huggins and crew at Cincy are looking at you, you are probably a pretty good player.
Gary Flowers, 6'8", Lincoln High School, Dallas, TX. The story on this kid is he is a stud recruit, but he has serious grade issues. If not for the grade issues, he would be in the elite class. A risk for the Aggies, maybe?? Lots of schools have backed off due to grades but BCG is still recruiting him and I think he will be in for a visit, maybe this weekend. This kid is a big time player, enough said.
Antanas Kavaliauskas, AK for short, 6'10" from Barton County Junior College (KS). Also listed as considering South Carolina, Tennessee. Despite his height he brings the European game, and can shoot the rock from the outside. The kid was shown lots of love by the A&M crowd during a recruiting visit and home game at Reed this past season. Excellent prospect. AK may possibly be off the market ;), this is just a guess though (internet search should yield some information, I will leave it at that)
James Tchana, 6'8", Our Savior New American HS, CenterReach, NY. Great story on this kid, his team van was in a horrible accident, and with some pretty serious injuries he was able to drag some others from the van, a bit tragic as some perished in the accident. Remarkable that he recovered. This kid signed a national letter of intent with Fresno State. Fresno Stage subsequently fired the head coach and Tchana has asked for a release from the LOI. He has shown interest in the Aggies. I'm not sure if he has been released from Fresno or not.
Chris Walker, (Not the same Walker, we would have two on the team) 6'3", sophmore PG from San Joaquin Delta College, Stockton, CA. I believe he is from Foothill Sacramento High. He may be visting over the weekend. Don't know too much about this kid.
Roderick Ollie, 6'6" Guard/Forward, Indianola Gentry High School, Moorehead, MS. Don't know too much about this kid either.
Sharaud Curry, 5'9" PG, Wheeler High School, Marietta, GA. Don't know too much on him either. He is supposed to be a lean to Providence, and chances are good he will become a Friar.
I also verfied the signing period, for this year the early signing period was November 10-17, 2004 and the late signing period is April 13-May 18, 2005.
Regarding our incoming class the following are listed:
David Devezin, Josh Carter, Jamar Finley, and Martellus Bennett (football scholarship). There seems to be some indication that Finley will not make it in by the fall, so that may open a slot. FYI...the 2006 recruiting class is shaping up to be stellar. I think it is safe to say that Coach Gillispie has our program headed in the right direction. Last thing, word is their are 3 scholarships to give in the late signing period.
