1. Eskimo Joe's, Stillwater. Perhaps the most well-known college bar in America. Joe's turns 30 this year, and its popularity continues to soar. The two-story bar added a dome, with a retractable glass roof, in 1991. Now there's a Joe's live Web cam for anyone missing "Stillwater's Jumpin' Little Juke Joint."
2. Barry's Bar & Grill, Lincoln. Four blocks from the stadium, Barry's ranks among the best anywhere on gameday. The Lincoln Journal-Star once ran a great nugget about Barry's. In 1987, the day before Oklahoma beat Nebraska, the Sooners' team bus pulled up outside Barry's. Out stepped OU football coach Barry Switzer, and the team bus moved on.
3. Dixie Chicken, College Station. The Chicken professes to serve more beer per square foot than any bar in the United States. It was named the No. 1 college bar by Playboy, and ranked in Stuff magazine's top 20 dive bars in America.
4. Harpo's, Columbia. Mizzou fans ripped down the goal posts after the 2003 victory over Nebraska and hauled them 15 blocks to Harpo's to be cut up and divided among the crowd.
5. Scholz Beer Garten, Austin. Opened in 1866, Scholz Beer Garten (yes, with a "t") is walking distance to the football stadium. The German tavern caters parties of 700 people 500 outside and 200 inside ‹ and surpasses that number on many fall Saturdays.
6. Rusty's Last Chance, Manhattan. Sports Illustrated ranked Rusty's 12th in its list of top college bars. Rusty's expanded in 2000 and includes nearly a block full of Rusty's ‹ Rusty's Last Chance, Rusty's Next Door, Rusty's Outback and Rusty's Other Side.
7. O'Connell's Irish Pub & Grill, Norman. A Jason White throw from the stadium, this Irish bar turns crimson on gamedays. For an afternoon game, the crowd lines up before the bar even opens. Overflow traffic filters into the tent outside, where there is a full bar and televisions.
8. George's, Waco. Offers seating in its restaurant, bar or deck ‹ all of which serve the popular Big O beer. Choose the deck, which feels like a beachside bar, except for the tiny detail of no ocean. It was Maxim magazine's bar of the month in March 2003.
9. The Wheel, Lawrence. Closest bar to KU's Memorial Stadium. On gamedays, the patio beer garden gives the small pub more elbow room.
10. Welch Ave. Station, Ames. Campustown bar fills with a balance of college students and older alums.
11. Sidetrack Tavern, Lincoln. On O Street near the glut of college bars, but this one is quite unique. The Sidetrack is legendary for raunchy sing-alongs with the Sidetrack Band.
12. Sixth Street, Austin. Pick a pub. Any of 'em. Sixth Street is the best college bar scene in America, and it reaches a crazy new level on gamedays.
