Spurs fans.....how are you going to defend this one?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2007/news/story?id=2866789

Phoenix All-Star Amare Stoudemire says the San Antonio Spurs are a "dirty team" and that Bruce Bowen tried to hurt him, nasty accusations sure to intensify the playoff series between two of the best teams in the NBA.

"He kicked me purposely in the back of my Achilles. I almost came down wrong and he almost caused an injury," Stoudemire said after Thursday's practice. "He's known for doing that. I just hope the NBA and the commissioner take a look at that because it's definitely a dirty play

"I think the Spurs are a dirty team," he said. "I mean, (Manu) Ginobili during the regular season kneed me in the crotch on purpose. I just hope the league takes a look at it and cleans the game up a little bit."

saw that last night on SC...

I think dude (while maybe right...) should just shut up & play...

ESPECIALLY don't say that when you're playing said team...talk about motivation...

If the spurs are dirty, everyone else in the league paints their bodies with ************ every morning, then rolls around in a cesspool, and then urinates on themselves

Everyone complains about Bowen b/c is a great defender and they get annoyed with him in their face all game...The Ginobili crap...come on i saw the game and the film and it was not on purpose.

He needs to shut up and play.

Umm saying people complain about Bowen just because he is a great defender is bias. Bowen is the dirtiest player in the league, which makes him one of the best defenders in the game. He kicked Ray Allen in the back and drop kicked Wally Szcerbiak, those are just off the top of my head. They go hand in hand, he's a great defender because he's a dirty player. For him you can't have one without the other.

Good point, CHHS. Look at Mutombo with the "unintentional" elbows!

why don't you define dirty for us. because if hes not getting called, yet its making him a better defender, then is it really "dirty"? I mean the refs and the front office don't find it dirty. And then, if its just dirty play and everyone can do it, why do more not play this way? its not because other players have integrity to not be what you guys are calling "dirty," its because they don't care about defense and they definitely aren't as skilled. Do you ever think that maybe people just get a little frustrated because he is so hands on, and plays such white-on-rice defense, that people are saying its dirty? Its so different from the norm to see someone exude so much energy on sticking to one guy. How about its amazing defense, and hes not just trying to lay off people so you can see some flashy offense from nba stars. HE SHUTS PEOPLE DOWN. If everyone would quit crying about physical play like we are in some PC world, we would see basketball return to its great former self.

Good point, CHHS. Look at Mutombo with the "unintentional" elbows!

His wingspan is like 7 and a half feet. What's he supposed to do, play defense with his hands down? That time he hurt LeBron was a complete accident. In fact, LeBron ran into Dikembe's elbow.

You are preaching to the choir about the NBA being a bunch of wussies and having to many fouls called. I sat there and wanted to break someones neck last year while I watched a foul get called everytime someone breathed near Dwayne Wade. Its not that Bowen is physical, it's the type of physical. When you kick someone when they are on the floor? Thats not good defense, that's dirty play.

Both Monu and Parker have had some pretty serious injuries on the floor in this series.

One caused by sore vagina himself (Stoudemire)

Here's a question.... But 1st I don't think Bowen is dirty... but even if he is... What's the big deal?

The old & current Pistons teams won their championships doing worst.... Yet no one complains about that... why????

Karl Malone is going to the Hall of Fame for being a dirty player.... no one complains about that... why????

Dennis Rodman was dirty everywhere he played & has how many rings????

These guys who bytch about dirty players... need to look in the mirror & ask themselves why they don't have rings, why they don't advance when they face those teams & why those teams are so successful.....

Jordan & Pippen didn't complain about the Pistons... they got back out on the court & kept working at it....

Name one time you heard Jordan complain....

Name one time you heard anyone complain about Charles Barkley or anyone complain about Malone back in the day.... Hell even David Robinson never complained about Malone & RObinson took more cheap shots from Malone than anyone else.....

Who? When?

I can vouch for the Malone complaint

Heres the thing. Every team has atleast one dirty player. the better the player, the more neg rep he gets for his "dirty" playing

The better the team and player the more crap you hear about them playing dirty.

If SA was in dead last place we wouldn't even be talking about this

I just find it funny how no one complained about Bruce Bowen back when he played for the Heat, Celtics or 76ers or when he 1st started playing with the Spurs back in the 01-02 season...

Hell not until 2 seasons ago starting with Ray Allen did anyone really notice Bruce Bowen except for coaches... Now that he has been so successful at what he does, folks are starting to cry about it & beg for calls that 3, 4, 5 years & more ago, they never would have cared... it's funny really.... He's been a pro 10 years... and just now is anyone complaining.....

So for your people that think Bowen isn't dirty, what about the shot to the groin that he gave Nash (that the NBA is investigating today)? Clean??

Yeah it was clean.... Look at Bowen's eye's & re-watch the whole game...

1) He isn't even Looking at Nash....

2) He always makes that 1st step to clear space when he feels someone is right up on him... everyone makes that move.... It's a typical everyday move..... Robert Horry was hit in the groin last year against Dallas when Dirk made the same move just inside the 3 point line.....

Geez... just cause Amare cries... folks wanna jump all over a guy.... :stupid:

You could do the same for Raja Bell, Amare Stoudemire... Hell even Tim Duncan has injured a few folks.....

Anyone catch Baron Davis nock down Derrick Fisher last night with a Shoulder to Head shot?

Hmmmm.....

Hows about Richardson slamming ol boy to the ground at the end of the game.....

You could start a highlight real on anyone & label them as dirty if you wanted to....

Anyone think Amare always comes down with his @$$ hanging out the way he did on Finlye?

6. I deliberately held my tongue on the Amare Stoudemire (http://www.sportsline.com/nba/players/playerpage/307861) situation because I wanted to see how his accusations would affect play out on the floor. I'm not going to call Bruce Bowen (http://www.sportsline.com/nba/players/playerpage/6485) a saint, and I certainly don't have an explanation for his Elaine Benes "little kicks" routine as it relates to Stoudemire's Achilles, but you can't make a living for as long as he has in this league if you have bad intentions. Bowen's defensive approach has drawn a lot of criticism over the years, and I'm a firm believer that where there's smoke, there's fire. At the same time, I've met and talked to Bowen. He not only seems like a good guy, but he's smart. I'm not saying that competitiveness can't get the best of a good person, but to accuse him of trying to jeopardize someone's career, especially with everyone watching, is unlikely.

Stoudemire had five fouls on Saturday. Bowen was called for one. The NBA's officiating crews have gotten a lot of heat of late, but even they can't be that far off. Bowen didn't take it easy, either. He did what he does, and did it without drawing whistles. It's why he's survived numerous "dirty player" accusations before. He's the best at what he does, and he never seems to cross the line substantially enough to get burned.

I also have to ask... which is it? Are the Spurs Dirty or Are the Spurs Soft? Because folks bytch about both...

http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/basketball/nba/spurs/stories/MYSA051407.1C.spurs.355591d.html

They are a motley collection of spindly foreign parts and past-their-primers waiting for their Social Security to kick in, many of them still a couple value meals shy of 200 pounds.

Their coach calls them soft twice a season, and their star forward's rap sheet begins and ends with an ejection for laughing. They have been branded too nice, too boring — the NBA's Milk & Cookies Gang, a label affixed by one of their own.

And yet the Spurs have somehow arrived here, dirty and bruised, one eye nearly swollen shut, their backs stiff from pushing and being pushed, their elbows (and at least one knee) allegedly sharpened to a razor's edge.

The Spurs, who have been called for 65 fouls in the series to the Suns' 62, have laughed at their sudden makeover. In past seasons, they shouldered criticism for being a finesse team. Now they're rugged or, at least in Stoudemire's opinion, dirty.

I think it's funny that Spurs have been called for more fouls & yet the Suns are the one's crying... then again, they are the one's losing....

Yet against Denver, Phoenix, Dallas, Detroit or whoever.. if the Spurs lose.. you wont hear them do that kind of crying....

It's laughable really.

Eh... I like the Spurs because they are not a bunch of Drama Queens like some of the other teams in the league. They quietly do what they need to do to be successful and they are good at it. I think that if you are going to call out the Spurs for being dirty then you can call out almost every other team in the league. I think all of the teams get away with it to some extent. That is just the nature of the game today, and I don't necessarily think that anyone should be upset over that. It is what it is.

Just my $.02

But what about my track record? Because of what I said about Bruce? I only said the truth... It's the freaking playoffs & what Bruce has done is what every team who wins a Championship does... He has also been penilized the least out of all the starters.. Hmmmmm.... wonder why.......

Horry on the other hand did lose his cool & crossed the line... what do you want me to say?
