View Full Version : Junior to leave DEI

Crazy Nascar news today. It looks like Dale Jr. has had enough of his stepmom and will leave DEI after this season. He will most likely form his own Nascar team (in conjunction with his Busch team that he already owns). However, he might just become a free agent and get hired by another team. Regardless, this is a huge change for Nascar.

Supposedly, his dad was in the process of changing his will when he died, but didn't get it finished in time before his death. The new will was going to give 100% ownership of DEI to Junior 3 years after he died. Since it never became official, the will still said that his widow had ownership. This is why Junior and his stepmom don't get along. It was common knowledge that Junior was supposed to get ownership, but since the will didn't say that yet, stupid stepmom is being a bitch. I look for DEI to slowly dissapear from racing if this happens.

I heard about this last night... Honestly I think the Stepmom is getting what she deserves. She shouldn't be such a bitch. He is supposed to be taking Truex with him. I really hope that they do well! :gig:

This is really sad. You have a father that obviously shared a love with his son, built something very nice to leave his son, and now it will be years (if ever) that he gets it because of some greedy stepmom. I think everyone knows that DEI was built with the intention that it would be Jr's someday. I also believe Jr has the ability to build a championship team if he is given the opportunity. Its too bad that he could not carry the company his dad built.

Yeah, it's a bad deal, but it's about time that Jr. left DEI. Has the press conference started? Wonder which team he's gonna go to now.

Not Truex, that guy's worthless.

Junior's sister already does the finances for his Busch team, so she is on board with him as well. Not sure who in that family (if anyone) will be supporting the stepmom. You think Junior will be sending her a mother's day card this weekend?

His sister is his manager.

What's gonna happen to old Teresa? I mean I love Kerry Earnhardt, but not sure if you can build a Cup team around him.

DEI is going to fail. No driver is going to want to work for her.

I like Truex I think he has potential... Supposedly Jr and Truex are starting a new team. JR Motorsports. Jr already has this team as a Busch team and now I think he is going to make a cup team. Just what I have heard.

He is being very professional about it. Leaving DEI but doesn't know who he will drive for in '08! Says that he will continue to work with DEI to help them & whoever he drives for to get better!

I am guessing he either drives for his own team, JR Motorsports, or goes to Hendrick.

Kelly just said, "Last choice would be to drive for his own team."

I think he ends up with RCR & drives the Black #3....does that for a few years & then starts his own team!

Childress is an idiot if he doesn't see the marketing potential of Jr. driving the 3.

I like Dustin's idea. I think that JR Motorsports may not be established enough to run a successful cup team. He needs to give it a few years to develop itself, race for RCR, and then race for his own team.

A black Budweiser #3 car would be slick.

I agree with you Dustin. Just seems like a story that's too perfect to actually work out. It would be good to see it, at least.

He just got asked about driving the 3 for RCR & he said he would have to do a lot of soul searching. Said he would love to drive for RCR but that he would almost feel bad about driving the 3. Said the chance is always there, but he feels like his dad made the 3 & that he doesn't know if he is worthy of driving it.

He also said that he was no where close to having things worked out with DEI so he could stay. He said that where they were wanting to go & where he was wanting to go were the same, but they had two completely different ways on how to get there.

I am a little confused. What was the purpose of his press conference if there is still a chance he could stay with DEI?

I guess that is a little confusing! He was saying that they tried to work it out, but there wasn't just one thing that caused him to leave. They worked hard to try to keep him with DEI but the two parties were so off on so many things, that there was no way it was going to happen.

I see. I think this whole thing is ridiculous. It is sad to see a stepmom tear apart something between a father and a son. Hope it works out and he can get a controlling interest in DEI. I think he deserves it and that is what his dad would have wanted.

I wonder if the 1 thing they couldn't come together on was the majority ownership issue. I know that Jr. had talked about that being his major concern, but that he was worried Teresa would balk.

I'm a Harvick fan, so if he came to drive the #3 for RCR, I'd be a happy camper. Wow, can you imagine the money Jr. would bring to the whole RCR operation in terms of sponsors and revenue from merchandise? Come to RCR, Jr., Harvick, Burton and Bowyer can use the extra teammate.
