View Full Version : 2007 NBA Draft
Do the Rockets trade up to take Acie Law? If so what would it take to get the deal done?
The Rockets are capped out right now. Also besides Yao and McGrady they don't have a player you could get a bag of balls for, at least as far as trading for first round draft picks goes.
Acie is projected to go to the Hornets at 13. The Rockets pick at 26. So you have to jump approximately 13 spots. I think the Rockets would have to:
Swap 1st round picks this year.
Offer next years 1st round pick as well as this years 2nd round pick.
Offer any Rockets player besides Yao and McGrady.
What say you?

They would have to give up too much to do it. Not gonna happen.

yah, that's what i was thinking...long way to jump and lots of give up.
My thought was they are one player away from being a good championship team. They can afford the high price tag.

yeah i do think acie could be the perfect fit in houston and would get to contribute on a nightly basis. not too many teams can say that.
i do think dallas might be willing to do a trade to get law.... being he is from dallas he would be a big draw there and i see the mavs running off harris or terry off. both of those guys pretty seriously underperformed against golden state. I dont think it will happen for acie but i do see some pretty big changes in the supporting cast..... because we all know cuban wont let getting embarassed like that go unchecked.

bein from Dallas of course id rather see him with the Mavshes :) but for the Rocket fans you'll be glad to know hes workin out in houston. maybe that'll give the Rockets enough chances to watch him and make that huge jump

They already have the players. They need the coach.

Yep. As much as I think Law would be a great fit in Houston, we can keep the #26 pick and take a big man to help Yao. Our biggest weakness defensively is the paint.
If Tiago Splitter (http://nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/tiagosplitter.html), Marc Gasol (http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/marcgasol.html) or Josh McRoberts (http://nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/joshmcroberts.html) are still on the board, that's who the Rockets want. However, that's very unlikely that any of those 3 will be available at #26.
Here are some good fits that are projected to be available when the Rockets draft:
Aaron Gray (http://nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/aarongray.html) - He's a 7-1 center who could give Houston a "Twin Towers" setup (Olajuwon/Sampson, Robinson/Duncan...)
Kyle Visser (http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/kylevisser.html) - He's a 6-11 PF with good rebounding skills.
Nick Fazekas (http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/nickfazekas.html) - 6-11 PF with size, good rebounding and a decent jump shot. A white version of Joseph Jones.

i dont think they can trade up but u know they are going to try.....there are not that many teams who i think he will succeed in but the Rockets are one i think he will.....
Houston needs a point guard and/or a power forward. So I guess if there is a good PF available then maybe they wouldn't trade up.

After Yao and McGrady who are you talking about?
Yes Shaq and Kobe won a lot of championships as a two man tandem but they also had a good supporting cast.
Not Luther Head, Rafer Austin, et al.

I haven't been looking at this much, but has anyone seen a projected draft board for this year? If so, where do they have Acie going? What pick?

The majority of drafts I have seen have Acie getting taken at 13 by the Hornets.

Does anyone know if this would be the highest ever draft pick from A&M?
Thanks Mole.:rep: After I spread some around.

Antoine Wright was supposed to be the highest ever at #15 to the Nets in the 2005 draft.

Well, I hope Acie goes higher than 15 so that Benedict Arnold does not hold claim to that fact.
