Does it really matter in Pro Sports?

It's rare that having the best Record actually pans out...

The eventual Champ in the NBA, NFL, & NHL hardly ever have the best record...

The Pistons, Mavs, Colts, Chiefs, Pats, & other teams who have finished the year with the best record never seem to win it that same year....

I just often wonder why people keep thinking the team with the best record is the favorite to win the Chip, when that hardly ever happens...

Maybe 1 in 5 or 7 tries does it actually pan out.....

Thoughts?

A lot of times that 'best record' equates to running out of gas when the playoffs come around...sometimes it works out but it seems like more often than not those teams are spent by then.

so...yeah, I agree

I think this has to do more with parity around sports now. Back in the day, teams with the best record won it all many times. Teams like the Bulls, Lakers, Celtics, Cowboys, and 49er's took care of business come playoff time. The Pats are the closest team that resembles those teams and I don't think they even had the best record for all of their superbowl runs.

The best regular season record means nothing in any sport. The important thing is to make the playoffs and try to have your team playing their best of the year.

I believe having homefield or homecourt advantage has some value in pro sports.

The best record may only grant you a home advantage so long in the playoffs. For example, I believe baseball and hockey determine home advantage for their finals based on who wins the all-star game.

But in football and basketball, it does hold value.

How so? The team with the best record has yet to win a Chip in how many years?????

You can't possibly believe that teams do not value having home court advantage throughout the playoffs.

Home Advantage in Basketball is unreal.

Didn't help the Suns...

Home Court only helps when your playing a team that really doesn't belong in the Playoffs...

When your playing a Championship Quality Team... Home Court/Field means nothing....

Oh and to answer your question, 2004 for the Pats and 2003 for the Spurs. Both teams had the best record in their sport and won it all.

I did not state that it helped, I stated that teams hold value in having home court.
