I'm not an Astros fan, but if I was then I wouldn't feel like I lost anything with Clemens going to NY if I was. As good as he is, he isn't close to being worth the kind of money he demands. Plus, he's kind of a jerk about it. I don't know if he says anthing that makes him seem like a jerk, but his actions and TV appearances make me feel like he is boasting himself as the hottest comodity. Don't be too surprised if he sucks for NY too.

It's just weird. It made sense that he came out of retirement to play for the hometown team, but to go back to the team you used to play for is odd.

I don't follow Baseball....
But I would have to agree... From everything I see on ESPN & FOX.... he seems to be over-rated?

He's been good out of retirement, but he is old and hittable. Not a $20 million player, or whatever amount they paid him for only HALF a season. Nobody deserves what he's been getting.

Agreed... I guess he's not over-rated... more like over-paid....
It would be like giving Emmitt Smith or Thurman Thomas an Adrian Peterson Contract 3 years after he's done.....

He just wanted to be with his bud, Andy. He followed him to Houston and now back to the Yankees. :headslap:

he is the hottest commodity, look who was going after him and what they are willing to pay...and he knows it nothing wrong with that....he is the greatest pitcher in the game

WRONG....he made what would be equivalent to 20 mil over a season...but since he only played half a season it was prorated to like 11 or 12 mil.
he posted sub 3 ERA's and a sub 2 ERA (in a full season 2 years ago)...you can't act asthough he washed up and hittable...where do you get off saying he is overrated....you get paid for what you have done in the past (ie what you have done creates your market and drives your price up---see Zito won a Cy Young a few years ago---is he a cy young winner now...no he is #2 or 3 not an ace..but he paid like an ace because he won the cy young years ago)

Whoa, calm down my friend. I think you misunderstood me on the money aspect. In any case, I still stand by what I said about him being over paid. I saw the Cardinals hit him pretty well in 2004 and in 2005 he lasted only 2 or 3 innings before being pulled in the world series. He's not Dr. clutch (although he played for an offensively inept ball club), and I don't expect him to get the Yanks anywhere. He's all about building his own image and I don't like seeing him. I just said, don't be surprised if he sucks this year. I can't predict that, but I'm just saying I don't think the Astros will miss him.

The thing about the amount of money he makes is that it is almost more worth it for the astros to pay than the yankees. Clemens puts people in the seats, almost all the games he pitched in houston were sold out. Plus, the astros pitching is much weaker this year than it has been in the past and they really need to improve thier rotation. Clemens would have been the easiest way to do that. Now they would have to trade and give something up for a pitcher.
I am pissed that he is leaving and would like to say that we dont need him, but the truth is we would be contenders is he signed with us, especially with the Cards looking so poor right now and losing a top pitcher to injury. Right now I think we need to add a little more to get past the Brewers (shudder).

AustinAg07, if you are concerned for the Astros pitching future you probably don't want Clemens. Clemens is not a long term solution, and if you need to trade now then you'll want someone who can last more than half a season. I agree with you that he does put people in the seats, but not as much as you might give credit for.

Screw Clemens. Sure, he is a great pitcher, but I am tired of him thinking that he is bigger than the game. He was a lucky bastard to get the deal that Houston gave him (doesn't have to travel on road trips, can come in late for home games, etc). It pisses me off when athletes say that they want to play close to home and be with their family and do crap like this. I guess I expected it from Clemens b/c it isn't the first time he has done this.
I hope he knows what he is doing. He just ************ed himself in Houston. I hope the Astros immediately cancel his "services contract," buy him out of his partial ownership of the CC Hooks, and cut his ************ty ass son from their minor league team. The only reason they drafted him was to keep Roger happy. He batting a stunning .237 in single A ball last year. Great job Koby.

he's good, but if he made this decision solely on money, then he SHOULD go to the yankees. I'm an astros fan, but if he wants the last place team in a loaded AL East Division because they offered him 28 mill, then he's no better than the typical SMU chick:headslap: ...have fun, Rog...

I think the American league is going to tag him this year.

He does this way too much or at least makes it a point to mention it to the media. I think he might be gay! He did spend time in Austin....:undecided:

To clarify, he signed a $33 million dollar contract that will be pro-rated (so it's well over $20 million since most of the season is left).
I'm pretty sure that's the figure I heard.

Here is one thing that I don't get. He will begin his workouts with the Lexington Legends (Houston's single A team) b/c that is where his son plays. Why the hell would Houston allow that traitor use Astros time and resources to train for his year with the Yankees?

Does anyone else see Clemens & tkc as being one in the same? The way they handle their business, the way they act in front of crowd. To me, they both come across as dirty politicians!

Clemens went to NY, since same-sex civil unions are legal there. He and Pettite are pillow-biters. Go Astros!
