This guy here in austin was testing this exact suv. Basically if you dont feel like reading the website. This vehicle drives by itself. He told me they were basically testing it for the military, they want to use it in the future to run supplies from point A to point B. Which is pretty cool because if no one is in the vehicle, no one can be captured or killed

That is pretty darn amazing. I have a 30 minute commute everyday and could really get caught up on some sleep if I had one of these.

YOu and me both. I drive 35 miles in one direction every day. So I look at around a 40-45 min drive depending. Id love to kick back and read a book or get a nap in...

I'm looking forward to this one. It took several years for the contestants to navigate the open desert with just a couple of obstacles. I'm sure the first year of the urban challenge with lots more challenges and moving obstacles is going to be far more difficult. I seriously doubt anyone will make it to the end this year. Going to be a lot of expensive crashes and a lot of college kids crying over months of work down the drain. Good entertainment.

Also for some reason this reminds me of how much I miss the show Battlebots.

we can't be that far off...

w/ the emergence of GPS...if everyone had a GPS chip in their car which allowed real-time placement of vehicles...we could better navigate traffic...couple that w/ on-board maps...I can see us one day getting in the car-punching in an address (or a quick-button) sitting back & relaxing (I Robot style)...w/ manual overrides of course...

I know farmers can install a program on their tractors that requires no driver. Granted, you have to stay in the cab to work the implements, etc. but they no longer have to worry about keeping straight rows, etc...the thing drives itself in a perfectly straight line!

because programing to go straight with nothing in the way that can't be run over (like crows), it so insanely hard these days. I hope we could do that

Okay, Polish to get more specific, just for you! It will completely plow an entire field...meaning making turns in turn rows, plowing around any obstacle, etc, all without human intervention. NO, its not dodging traffic & recognizing stop lights, but it has been around for the better part of a decade...so I'm sure they have progressed quite a bit!

I agree this technology is not far off from hitting the mainstream. However, it is going to be very expensive at first. My kids will probably really enjoy it. Actually they will probably just take it for granted, just like we do a car.
