Severe weather

Severe weather is again going to be moving into the Big Country this afternoon, beginning between 1600 – 1800L. A severe thunderstorm watch and heavy rain watch (2 inches in less than 12 hrs) will be issued for Dyess AFB around lunch time today. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing wind gusts to 55kts (63mph) and hail up to 1 ½ inch in diameter as well as a isolated, weak, short-lived tornadoes. This is also going to be another heavy rain event, with 2-3 inches possible, causing some localized flooding in the Abilene area.

This event will last through the night tonight and should be out of the area by lunch tomorrow. Missions returning and leaving after 1600L will be impacted, as well as the morning takeoffs.


We’ll be mentoring the situation closely throughout the day and tonight, please call if you have any questions.

Looks like it's gonna get nasty in the Abilene/Dyess AFB area for those of you who live around here. I'm glad they're "mentoring" this situation though...it should grow up to be a very responsible and productive situation...:D
