Earlier today I was on my way to meet up with my girlfriend at her apt. I got on my bike and rode across the quad from dorm 9 where i park past the front of duncan. Then as i made the left turn around duncan to exit the quad i was abruptly stopped by a member of the KK. She told me to stop and turn my bike off. Then she told me that i couldn't ride my bike on the sidewalk. I apologized and told her that i was unaware of the rule. She was EXTREMElY rude to me the whole time i was dealing with her (i was being extremely polite trying to avoid a ticket). I asked her how i was supposed to get to the motorcylce parking area that was over 100 yds from where i got pulled over. She scowled back at me and said "push it". I told her that when i purchased a permit to park here they told me the speed limit on the quad was 10 mph and even showed me a map of the direction that quad traffic is supposed to flow. I told her that maintenance trucks, cops, ups, fed ex, bikes, uhauls, trailers, and other random cars and trucks drive on the quad every day. I told her that the whole 4 years that i've lived here nobody has ever said we couldn't ride on the quad, and that i've even driven past other kk and never had any trouble whatsoever. I explained that while my bike is pretty small, some of the bikes that park here way 600+ lbs and that it would be very hard to push the bike that far 3 or 4 times a day whenever people want to go anywhere. I was being as polite as possible, and it seemed like she hated me before she even saw me come around the corner. she gave me a warning, but cost me a lot of time, and now i don't know what i'm going to do (other than write a strongly worded letter to the kk chief complaining about the poor attitude and unprofessional behavior of his staff). I really don't see myself pushing my bike back and forth multiple times per day. there is parking all over campus that is accessible only by way of sidewalk. I don't consider the quad to be a sidewalk, and neither does the transportation dept. this women's attitude towards me pissed me off more than anything else, and i've about had it with the kk harassing me simply because i ride a bike. i don't speed, and i follow all of the laws that i'm aware of, and i think i know them all. any suggestions on how i should handle this? if you read this whole post i'm impressed. i wouldn't read more than a couple of sentences.

by the way, she was pretty much just camping out drinking tea and stopping every bike that came her way.

well i've been searching for a while and cannot for the life of me find out whether the law really exists. when i took the motorcycle training course the instructor told us that riding up the sidewalk was part of the beauty of riding a bike. He instructed us to only ride on sidewalks if it was required to get where we were going.

yes i read the red, and i believe that i am in compliance... i never ride the entire length or width of the quad and i always yield, but does that really matter if it's against state law?

I think the state may have left those laws to the municipalities to write.

Good night.

I think the state may have left those laws to the municipalities to write.

that's what i'm starting to think... i really haven't found anything that the state has published on this topic, but i want to be sure before i write a letter to the campus police dept. I'm at least going to file a complaint for the behavior of the officer, but if i know that she was in the wrong i will include that as well... :rep: for the help

not sure about campus, but if you are looking for city ordinances i put a link to the CS city ordinances a while back. under some thread about drinking in public.

04-29-2007, 04:15 AM
i think i'll include in my letter "if the dept decides to uphold the decision made by officer x, it would be greatly appreciated if you could provide a task force consisting of at least 2 people to help push the 30-40 bikes to and from their parking spaces"

not really, but it sure would make me feel better

VERY good guess but no

When I owned my 01 Z28 I had a actual piston for a shifter (knob) In the hot summer it was scoring hot, in the cold on hard shift it felt like my hand was about to break. But it looked AWESOME! anyways, I began wearing a black weight lifting glove on my right hand (for the shifter) then I ran across a Vette owner about a year later that wore gloves on each had to protect the leather on the steering wheel and shifter (leather aswell)

so, after that day I put gloves on each hand when I drove that car. When I sold it. (3 years old) the steering wheel looked brand new. I used blackgloves on every forum Ive ever been on (many, and for a long time)

so thats the story... Its painted on my helmet, its on my voice mail and I get messages from my friends "hey blackgloves..."

Back in the olden days know as the early 80's Colonel Parson's who had retired from the U.S.Army took over the duties of chief of the KK after he did his gig as commandant. If you had a butt load of tickets, or a problem, you just had to dress up in midnights, and go visit Col Parsons. He would dismiss every ticket. That guy rocked.

The PTTS has always been a problem. They used to ride around in packs in their Jeep Grand Cherokees. Once one would write a ticket the other 4 or 5 would pile out of the Jeep and write the same ticket on the same car.
