Not trying to run the show here. But when I owned/moderatered my website(s) I would send out a basic PM to every new member and I would try to send it to them when they were logged on. this helped to get the new members to stick around and post. Not just sign up and disappear
just food for thought

Ummm...we already send a PM. When they log in, it pops up a text message that says, "read message". I essentially say "howdy, and welcome to aggiefans.com. Here's what we are and how we roll. If you're down with it, stick around and post."

cool
heres my last shot, take it or leave it. But I would always send somethign semi personal. Seemed to really set the hooks in (they'd stick around" Ill give you an example of what I would send, but since the forums I worked on weren't Aggie related Ill switch it up to make it work
"Hey, glad to have you on board with aggiefans.com. Where are you from? What year did you graduate from A&M? We have members from just about every year or decade here. Some are just hard core fans but all seem to be a fun bunch to be around. Well anyways, I hope you stick around and post. We do things together as a group too so just ask anyone or myself if you wanna meet up for some tailgating and whatnot"
anyways... I just threw that together. I would cut and copy this kinda thing and send it via PM as soon as I saw they were done registering or logged on. If you ask them a question, they normally will answer. If you make it "personal" (the PM) then they feel wanted/welcomed

Yeah, but the hard thing is you can't make an automatic e-mail personal. I don't expect them to respond. If they want a personal greeting, post in the forums...our members always say welcome to new posters. Just my 2 cents.
