This is the best team the Aggies have had on the field since their 1999 College World Series run. However, Olsen Field has only possessed an average attendance of 3,637, which is more than 1,400 less than the average attendance over the past five years.

This article wont be winning any pulitzers, but it brings up a good point that I have been thinkng about.
Why aren't people as into baseball this year? Is it because of our past struggles? Maybe the recent success of Basketball has diverted some attention?
Thoughts?

i am sure the success of basketball had something to do with the low attendance at the baseball games???

Aggie fans suck! As a whole, we FREAKING SUCK! We are about as fair-weather as fans come! That explains it! People quit going because the team was down the last couple of seasons & they won't start going again we're winning next season! We have a top 20 baseball team & they have to offer 2 for 1 tickets to get people to come out & the crowds still suck! We can't sell out Kyle! Reed isn't sold out for non-conference games!

Unfortunately, Dustin is right. Aggie fans nowadays are not like Aggie fans 10 years ago.
Although, a big part of the problem with baseball attendence is that Byrne raised the prices too sharply. A season ticket for Aggie baseball is about 2x what the sips charge. So people are having to pay 2x to see a decent team to what people are paying in Austin to see a national championship caliber team.

Baseball tickets are very cheap overall! We sat 3rd row 1st base side on Sunday (had a season ticket holder with a couple of extra) & the face value on them was $11. There are 33 home games this year. And I would assume that conference games are more expensive than OOC games. So its safe to say that you can purchase season tix to Aggie baseball for $300! While it may be more expensive than the sips, you can't say that people are being priced out!

Season tickets for the Ags this year was $324 for a reserved seat. No general admission season ticket was offered. This also does not include parking.
For comparison, a season ticket for the sips was $165 for GA and $185 for reserved. Tech charges $165 for a reserved season ticket. You can get a baseball and softball season ticket with parking at Baylor for $125.
The individual game prices for all these schools are about the same. The biggest difference is that the other schools offer a pretty big discount if you get season tickets. A&M offered no discount.
I can see families getting priced out of going to lots of games, but it is no excuse for students. The student side should be full every game.

baseball also has to draw alot of locals because somedays its tough to get in from out of town. I know a guy that gave up his tickets because he was paying over 1K for 3 tickets and parking. They just go to HS games now. He never went to A&M.

A&M does a terrible job of promoting baseball games. Basketball and Football advertisements are a little better but for the most part the average fan does not know the schedule, prices, etc.

Season ticket holders are also pissed now b/c of the 2 for 1 ticket deal. They should be able to present their ticket and get one free.

if they existed they'd be winning national championships. Texas is a hot place for recruiting in soccer and the only place to play in the state is SMU.

I'd actually really like to see us get a men's soccer team. Just don't know a women's sport that is worth adding to meeting Title IX requirements.

We need to add Mens Soccer, Rugby, Lacrosse and Womens Rugby, Lacrosse
According to aggieathletics we already have 2 more womens sports than mens so that should keep us in compliance.

I guess the problem with us adding men's soccer is finding people to play. I assume we would be an independent?

Here's a list of Div 1 soccer teams. I don't see another big 12 school on there. I think this could be A&M's chance to blaze a trail and be ahead of everyone else when they try to come in. It'd also be a very progressive move by a school that traditionally follows.
