Texas A&M took the first of a 3 game series 4-2 Friday Night against #15 ranked Oklahoma State. More importantly, they moved into a virtual tie with the Cowboys for second place in the Big 12. Texas A&M improved their record to 32-8 (9-6 in Big XII) with the win. Last year, wins were hard to come by as Texas A&M finished dead last in the Big XII at 25-30 (6-20) under first year head coach Rob Childress. Now, with 16 games left, the Ags find themselves in striking distance of the Big XII Conference Championship and can complete the worst to first transition by finishing strong. The regular season finale, a 3 game series in Austin, may prove to be a battle for the championship as #5 Texas is sitting on a 2 game lead in the conference right now.
The Texas A&M pitching staff has risen to the challenge this year, led by ace Kyle Nicholson. Kyle Nicholson pitched 8 and 1/3 innings in the 4-2 win over Oklahoma State, improving to 9-1 on the year and actually hurting his 1.14 ERA. He's now 2nd in the nation in wins and has the 6th best Earned Run Average nationally.
Texas A&M sends Jr. LHP David Newman to the mound Saturday to battle Oklahoma State for sole possession of 2nd place in the Big XII.
