SSGT. I had the chance to go to OCS after I got out of A&M but chose to stay a NCO because officers can't led a recon team in combat and also I'd rather work for a living in the Corps.

To finish up the trifecta. DI suspects recruit not putting out to Marine Corps standard and lets him now about it. LINK MIGHT BE NSFW, NOT SURE.

First one was funny. The guy making the blaring horn noises was the best. Couldn't really make out what the rest were saying.

The second one was confusing. I couldn't tell how that guy ended up on the ground.

Jesus how do you keep from laughing at those idiots? I totally appreciate everything people in the military do for us but there is no way I'd make it through drill school. Not because I can't but because of situations like that first video where you are required to sit there and keep a straight face and pretend that you give a sh*t.

I think they were trying to impress upon the recruit that he shouldn't fall asleep on fire watch.

I agree. I still laugh when the drill instructor in Full Metal Jacket starts making fun of everyone. I realize that the movie is nothing like real life but if drill instructors even remotely act like that I would be in big trouble. I wouldn't be able to stop laughing.

Of course if I was actually in that situation it probably wouldn't be that funny.

They do act like that and will choke you out very quickly or slam their body into yours. I have seen some DI's throw recruits down. In special forces school they are allowed to hit you and go all out. One thing is don't ever touch a DI because he can then beat the crap out of you. Also when you learn Hand to Hand combat the DI and Instructors hit you as well. They go full speed. The point of fire watch is to make sure nobody gets by your post without being checked out. You can use deadly force if that person dosn't say who he is. You have the right to make a 4 star General stop and make sure he's suppose to be there. The yelling, cussing, and thrashing is a non stop thing in Marine Boot camp, 3 and a Half months 24/7.

i understand the concept of the firewatch thing. just don't understand how them yelling at that guy is going to make him stay awake. they look like they are just jumping around and flailing their arms and stuff. i guess it might be more intimidating if it was happening to you, just doesn't look it on tape.

They are Not Idiots and There is No Humor

Great stuff. I found nothing humorous in any of it.

It might be funny to a recruit at first, but that humor will quickly die if he has any respect for himself and if he really wants to succeed.

There is no humor in what the DI's are imparting when you are on the receiving end. A recruit will make that mistake only once, and when he does he will be looking for a hole to hide. He also hopes he finds that hole before he is dead meat.

It's all part of a plan to train an individual to think clearly, obey orders and perform under the extreme pressures of combat. If he thinks it's funny as a boot, he is in the wrong place and you do not want him beside you when you life is on the line.

As a commissioned officer, I never had to go through boot camp, but I can still tell you that it is serious business and should never be considered humorous in my mind.147

I miss boot camp all the time.

The first vid (fire watch) was just stupid (the reactions)

the other vid was pretty good and thats the way it should be
