Martellus, the coach?: Tight end Martellus Bennett is usually recognized for his sensational play on the field and his quotable interviews, but a new trend may be developing at practice this spring.
In Monday's practice, Bennett's offensive unit was working against a group of scout team defenders. Bennett felt one defender was letting him catch his passes too easily.
Rather than make a scene, the junior slowly walked over to the defensive sideline a few plays later, called the defender in question over to him and explained that he shouldn't just let him catch the ball. He even made a point of telling the defender to catch the pass if he could, emphasizing that everyone should work hard to get better in the spring, even those on the scout team.
Bennett's evolution into this kind of a leader is something coach Franchione has noticed too.
"He's going into his third year and he's a hard worker," Franchione said. "People are starting to recognize him for that and they respect him for his work ethic."

Tellus the Great
Same article says
At the end of practice, Lane demonstrated his ability and then his class. On a sweep to the right, Lane outran the edge defender to the corner and kept on running full speed through the sideline into a group of fans watching practice. One unlucky bystander was unable to move out of the 275-pound back's way and Lane hit him hard. To the man's credit, he did not go to the ground, instead using Lane and a friend to stay upright until he regained his legs. After Lane was removed from the huddle, he walked over to the man, shook his hand and made sure he was OK.
Lane can't even knock over a guy, geez put on some weight man :D

I can see him going Pro after this year, but if he stays... he will be a MONSTER his Senior year...

Yeah I gotta feeling Bennett and Lane will bounce after this year. Goodson will follow suit the year after. Could help us land some top recruits *the only positive I can gather*

agreed
I think and hope he learns from Toombs. He stated something to that effect once before in a interview. But with him trying to loose weight it makes me think he is priming himself up for the draft

But he didn't try to lose that weight... that was a result of a virus infection....
Lane is happy with Lane....
I would just like to see him stay all 4...

Oh I know.... Just saying what I would like..... every player has to do what's best for him/her..... and with family and all that would definetly weigh in on their decision.... But as a Fan... I would love for every Ag to stay all 4 years.... JMO.

Tight end Martellus Bennett is usually recognized for his sensational play on the field
I like Martellus and think he is hilarious with his comments as well as potentially a huge threat, but I am not sure I would mark him down as recognized for his sensational play on the field just yet. Goodson...yes, Lane...yes, even McGee at times....yes, but with all the hype Bennett came in with, I would say he has not met expectations just yet. I have no doubt it will happen, just too early to say it now.

Lane would have to work harder at making those millions.....
Aside From Jermoe Bettis & Chrystian Okoye... Big Backs don't make a big splash right off the bat or at all for that matter.... RB's like Goodson have an easier time making the transition....
Most Big Backs also have a hard time keeping their conditioning up once their Final College Season is over & while they wait for the Combine....
Case in point... Lendale White.... I seriously hope that if Lane goes pro after next year that he makes it in the NFL.... But it's just tough for Big Backs....

yea think it would be best to stay but when you've got a toddler and a baby due this summer- you need money more than anything

I agree with all this. Another way to look at it is this. Bettis has somewhat paved the way for guys like Lane and White. White screwed himself because he had a terrible combine. There was questions and rumors about his attitude. Then of all things he spits in the face of a teamate his first few weeks of practice. He just doesn't have good work ethic. He was an awesome back he just doesn't have the drive.

I think the biggest thing would be for Lane to really get good advice from scouts on where he would go in the draft... if he is projected a serious 1st or 2nd round pick after this coming season... then I would say he should go.... otherwise... stay.... JMO.
And that would go for any A&M athlete.... I would love for them to all stay.. but if they are projected in the 1st or 2nd round.... that's serious cash & can't fault them for leaving...

Yeah its gonna be really interesting to see how and where he is drafted. You wanna believe hes a first day draft. But then you see other guys in the past, really talented that slipped way down. Dat was one of them, same for L. White last year.
Lane is gonna have to prove he can run the ball more than just short yardage and 3rd and 4th downs. I know he proved that in some games last year. But he needs to do that more often this year and possibly next. I guess the very best thing for him is to tone down some so stamina is never a question
