Andy Katz on ESPN Radio just said that Gregg Marshall of Winthrop and Mark Turgeon of Wichita State are our most likely canidates to replace BCG. Out of those two I would personally want Gregg Marshall. His team is always a great defensive team and his type of play reminds me of Billy's.

Press conference after Winthrop loss to A&M (http://all-access.cstv.com/cstv/player/player.html?code=tam&sport=m-baskbl&category=Press%20Conference%20(MediaType)%20&media=20029)
Marshall seems like a very upbeat guy, he is very humurous in the press conference and also has a great track record at Winthrop.

I have heard the Wichita State guy is very likely. I also heard that there is a small window for the guy from USC but highly unlikely that we can talk him away from USC.

I'd rather have Marshall but what do I know about coaches??

The guy at USC is Tim Floyd, who grew up in Louisiana and coached at UTEP under Haskins. He also won the Big XII at Iowa State and coached in the NBA for a while.
If there is a window that allows us to get him, we should be all over it.
That said, I like Marshall from Winthrop, too, and would be real happy to get him.

And according to Andy Katz
Texas A&M has offered the men's basketball job to Wichita State coach Mark Turgeon to replace Billy Gillispie as its next men's basketball coach, multiple sources close to the situation told ESPN.com Sunday night.
Turgeon still needs to agree to the terms of the contract before accepting the position. He is expected to meet with Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne Monday with a possible news conference Tuesday in College Station.
Gillispie left Thursday after three seasons to replace Tubby Smith at Kentucky.
Andy Katz is a senior writer for ESPN.com.
I am all for this, if Bill Byrne thinks it is the right hire I am behind him all the way.

Anyone know what Wichita State has done under Turgeon during his stay at their school?
Just curious....

I liked this part of his bio...
As a coach and a former collegiate player Head Coach Mark Turgeon has a lot to offer - a college career with three Final Four rings, a national championship ring, coaching experience in a Final Four, the NBA, and coaching lines that extend all the way to the beginning of the game.
This is also good....
Turgeon was later an assistant coach at University of Oregon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Oregon) and later the University of Tennessee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Tennessee), under former Kansas assistant Jerry Green, who was the head coach at each stop, then as an assistant under Larry Brown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Brown_%28basketball%29) for the National Basketball Association (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Basketball_Association)'s Philadelphia 76ers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_76ers).
Turgeon was hired for his first head coaching job at Jacksonville State (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacksonville_State_University) in Alabama, but in 2000, he jumped back to his home state, taking over as the head coach of Wichita State.
In the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_NCAA_Men%27s_Division_I_Basketball_Tournament ), Turgeon guided his 7th seeded Shocker team to the Sweet 16 after an upset of 2nd seeded Tennessee.
Mark Turgeon and the Shockers started the 2006-2007 season off winning on the road at George Mason,[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Turgeon#_note-0) LSU,[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Turgeon#_note-1) and Syracuse.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Turgeon#_note-2) They reached the AP top ten on December 4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_4), 2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006).[ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Turgeon#_note-3)
But why hasn't anyone gone after him, that we know of... or why hasn't he accepted anywhere else & why would he choose to coach for A&M?

Well, he hasn't been a head coach for very long. As impressive as the MVC schools have been, those coaches generally aren't swamped with big school offers.
As for coming to A&M: We have money, facilities, a huge fanbase, a great nucleus of players intact and unlimited recruiting potential.

:undecided: Not that Wikipedia is at all a reliable source but it says on Turgeon's page that he is scheduled to be announced as coach at a press conference tomorrow.

He's had some real interest from other schools in the past. I know that Nebraska was interested in him last year though I believe he turned them down before it ever even got to the interview stage.
The speculation is that his ultimate goal is to be the head coach of Kansas. At the moment his star has fallen just a little in the last season and a half. It is hard to tell how good a recruiter a guy like him is when they are at teams that really don't have a chance at top talent. What you find are guys that are very good coaches, but perhaps a bit rough in the recruiting aspect. However, with his past experience at big programs, that shouldn't be too big of a deal for Turgeon.
It is a good quality hire in my view. I'm not sure that he's BCG good, but nobody can know that until he's on the job for a couple years.

He almost got the coaching job at Kansas, but they chose Bill Self. Not sure what to think about him just yet, but I will definitely trust Byrne's decision. This guy has no direct ties to Texas, but obviously recruits it well b/c he had 5 guys on his roster from Texas last year.
