View Full Version : The Over/Under of BCG...

How long do you think BCG stays at UK? I don't think he'll leave of his own accord. I think he'll get run out like the rest of them.

I'm putting the over under at 4 years.

is there really a need for this thread? just a way to be bitter? be happy for the guy and his new position and wish him the best of luck and then kick his arss across the Texas border.

who really cares how long he is at uk?

i'm not pumping sunshine, but there is no reason to want him if he doesn't want to stay. we should thank him for what he did for our program and then boot his arss across the border.

I think it's a justified thread. UK isn't known for being very tolerant of basketball coaches. Here he could have been a Coach K, there he's just going to be another name. I think he gets run out sooner rather than later.

why can't he be a Coach K at uk?

Wont happen...

IMO UK won't let anyone get that far. They are unrealistic in terms of expectations. They would probably run of the actual Coach K a UK.

Look at Tubby Smith. How many Sweet 16s, Elite 8s, Final 4s? Any other program would be happy with that sucess.

yah, but the last few years have been average for tubby, haven't they?

Tuby's average have been equal to what BCG has done at A&M....

What BCG has done fore A&M (while great) wont cut it at UK.

tubby's last few have been going down. bcg's have been going up. big difference.

Tubby was far from average. He never won less than 20 games. He never failed to make the tourny. He won a national title, etc. But he was there for quite a while so it is hard to say that they turn over coaches too fast.

Basically, the Kentucky fans are very unrealistic in this modern era and until they get some sense of reality again, they will never be happy with anybody.

They truly believe that they should never fail to make the sweet 16 and that they should play for the championship at least once every 5 years or so. In this day and age where superstar players rarely play 4 years, that is a very tough road.

As for my thoughts on BCG. He's a hell of a coach. Though we really don't know how good he is until he plays without a guy the caliber of Law. Look at Phil Martelli who was national coach of the year at St. Joes then once Jameer Nelson went to the NBA Martelli became just another guy. Now, I really don't see BCG in that same light as he's proven he can recruit, but you just never know.

The next hire for aTm is the most important hire the AD has ever had. The reason is that the program is at a critical point. If it goes backwards, the fans at aTm don't have a storied history to fall back on and will lose interest. The Aggies need a coach that will take up where BCG left off that plays the same style, etc. I haven't a clue who that should be, but the future of basketball at College Station hangs in the balance.

That's what I have been trying to explain to the Aggies I work with. They seem to understand why BCG left. I keep trying to tell them that he doesn't know what he's getting into with these unrealistic UK fans.

Basically, the level of success that he's had over his time in Kentucky would probably only rate behind Roy Williams, Coach K, and maybe Bill Self or Billy Donovan (who hasn't had the time in, but can't argue the success).

Not a single missed NCAA. Never lost in the first round.

Only two years of not winning the SEC (or Co).

That would allow you to own about any college town in the country and they ran Tubby out of town.

Exactly. If BCG thinks he can improve on that good luck. I think he's in for a rude awakening.

I just don't think that any of us can understand the ego that top coaches have. They are like the women that think they can turn the cheating wife beater into a good man, all it takes is the right woman. Or the guys that believe they have the magic wiener that will make a lesbian straight. A good number of the top coaching prospects think they truly could be the one guy that could make all the UK fans happy.
