Interesting tid bits from their 1st day of Full Pads...

Several players on both sides of the line stood out. On defense, Lucas Patterson (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=64669) was a pleasant surprise. After being moved to defensive tackle from the offensive line prior to workouts due to lack of depth, one might have expected Patterson to be a bit behind the other linemen. However, he definitely looked the part and was able to tie up several blockers on more than one occasion.

Also on the defensive front, end Michael Bennett (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=51047) and Cyril Obiozor (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=36219) look like they will provide the Aggies with a solid pass-rushing tandem. Both players looked very quick off of the edge in drills against the offensive unit.

Defensive tackles Kellen Heard (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=51056) and Henry Smith (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=51064) both are in good shape and were able to get a very solid push all day. With those two big-bodied run stoppers in the middle and the quickness of the ends, the defensive line should be a solid unit for A&M next year. While lack of depth, especially at the tackle position, is a potential concern, the early results look very favorable for the front four.

The skill position players also put on quite a display. Perhaps the highlight of the day came with the whole offense and defense going full speed. 270 pound running back Jorvorskie Lane (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=59040) caught a swing pass in the flats and was promptly stopped in his tracks with a big hit by safety Alton Dixon (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=59029). The play elicited quite a bit of excitement from the crowd on hand.

Another fun moment for the players was the "Aggie Drill." Every defender on the team got their chance to go one-on-one against an offensive player while trying to shed the block and get to the ball carrier. The entire team stopped to watch Martellus Bennett (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=59016) battle Nick LaMantia in the drill. Martellus showed why he is known as a dual threat tight end by winning the battle.

Several other players stood out on the day. Safety Jordan Pugh (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=64671) looked impressive for the third straight day. He seems to be adjusting quite well to his new position after moving from cornerback.

While Lane and Mike Goodson (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=64663) get most of the press at running back, and deservedly so, two other backs looked the part on Thursday. Tailback Cornell Tarrant (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=74374) continues to be a very pleasant surprise and looks like one of the most physically imposing players on the team. Also, Jodie Richardson (http://tamu.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=59045) looks quite comfortable in the fullback role after moving to the position from linebacker before the Holiday Bowl. With him leading the way for Lane, it will be tough for defenses to stop the two big backs.

I didn't know that Lane (275 - 300lbs) could be stopped 1 on 1 by a young Safety.....:wow:

Lane being stopped by one of OUR safties makes it a good thing. Lane will get his though, you can bet on that. Just ask Tarrel Brown, 2 years straight.

I see it 1 of 2 ways....

1 = Our Safties are already tought than tu's safties which are considered 1st Round picks & were "said" to be "some of the best" in the nation....

or

2 = Lane is either not 100% back from that infection or he is still in that funk from the Holiday Bowl where he didn't get the 1st down...

Personally... I hope it's #1....

Don't worry about Lane. He is the 100% sure thing you can ALWAYS count on on our roster.
