You probably recognize me from television commercials informing people about diabetes testing supplies. But today I'm here to talk to you about a new medicine, reality. Here in March a large dose of reality was given to several schools yesterday and will continue to be administered throughout this "March Madness". Here are a few examples of reality being adminstered in the last 24 hours alone.
Both Syracuse, and Kansas State found themselves with 10 wins in the respective BCS schools. Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim was obviously floored by this dose of reality after it was expected he was a lock and after all he is Syracuse and I mean he did have 'Melo. He was quoted as saying "I don't know if I've ever heard of a school in a BCS conference getting 10 wins and not making the tourney." Well Jimmy first of all the "BCS" is the Bowl Championship Series. It was designed to help pick a football champion not who gets in the tourney. Maybe you should try and quit scheduling your entire non-conference against no-names all at home and "neutral site" games at the Garden. Then maybe people would be a little more confident about your team on the road or against anyone that matters.
Huggy Bear and the Wildcats found themselves out of the tourney becoming the first team ever to win 20+ games, 10 conference wins, and finish in the top 4 of a major conference and not make the tourney. But they had many of the same problems playing a super cupcake schedule and losing to New Mexico and Colorado State. It didn't help that the Big 12 north other than the 2 Kansas schools couldn't have even hung in Missouri Valley Conference. And that's not K-States fault but that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
And then you've got the Drexel Dragons. I would've loved for them to bein because if there's one thing ol Wilford likes it's a mythical fire breathin' creature. But are you serious Drexel? You're going to finish fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association? You go 0-4 against the top two teams in your conference and bow out of the conference tournament early? You were in the biggest need of reality after you had become delusional, one of the side effects of losing reality.
Well that's it for now. Reality will continue to be handed out in large amounts over the next few weeks. So don't be alarmed as you have been warned.
