19 Commits already... some of which are top notch... Wonder why no one is complaining about the staff's recruiting ability right now?
I took out some stuff that wasn't needed.
Athlete Lamar Harris became Texas A&M's 19th commitment on Tuesday.
Aggies picked up commitments from three East Texas standouts in Jordan Fields, Keon Furtch, and Kendall Wright.
Perhaps the most unexpected commitment from the area came on Monday afternoon when Gilmer athlete Lamar Harris became to the 19th member of the A&M class of 2008.
"Yes sir, I committed to Texas A&M today," said the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Harris. "I called up coach DeBesse and just told him that I wanted to commit."
Despite holding offers from Oklahoma, Baylor, and Tulsa, a recent visit to the A&M campus in College Station seemed to seal the deal in Harris' mind.
"Well I came down (to College Station) this past weekend," Harris said. "I liked it a lot. Everything was cool and I felt like it was home. It's also not too far from home either, which is nice. Also, the team really seemed like they were one unit, like one family."
"(Coach DeBesse) and I probably talk at least three of four times a week," Harris said. "The A&M coaches recruited me the hardest out of anybody. They really made me feel like they wanted me. In the end, I just felt like they were the best fit for me."
"I was talking to my coach, coach Traylor, on the phone today," he said. "He really has a lot of influence on me because he's never led me wrong before. When I was talking to him, he was telling me that I should commit to A&M. That's when I decided for sure, because you know, he's never led me wrong."
Before he called the A&M coaches to inform them of his decision, Harris had one more call to make.
"First of all, I had to clear it with my dad," said Harris. "He wanted me to wait awhile before committing but he was alright with it."
Despite the lack of East Texas players at A&M, Harris is already familiar with one future teammate.
"Kendall (Wright) and I were talking about it and we decided we were going to play together in college," he said. "I've known him for a while now."
Harris plays cornerback, safety, and wide receiver for his high school while also returning punts and kickoffs. His versatility gives him the option of several position once he arrives at A&M.
"(The A&M coaches) are recruiting me as an athlete," he said. "I could end up at receiver or at cornerback. We'll just have to see when I get there."
Harris earned unanimous first-team all-district honors as a junior after recording 46 receptions for 800 yards and 16 touchdowns on offense and three interceptions on defense. He returned two of the interceptions for touchdowns.
Gilmer head coach Jeff Traylor has coached plenty of talented players over the years, but he paid Harris perhaps the ultimate compliment.
"(Lamar) is one of the most likeable kids we've ever had," Traylor said. "He never misses a workout and he's one of my all-time favorites."

Been out for 2 reasons... in a 2 week period... my lil girl was born & my Mother passed away... it's been a joyful & painful time so I have been out of town taking care of things... My Mom was laid to rest this past Monday next to my grandmother....
I'm just glad my Mom was able to see her 2nd grandchild before she passed. She was even able to smile for her grandchild....

Yeah wife is doing good & so is the baby.... My Wife has been a rock for me these 2 weeks... 2 weeks after having the baby she was willing to go down to the RGV to be there for me...
Nothing against other women, but I have the best Wife in the world.
