Time the Enemy For Aggies
http://www2.indystar.com/library/factfiles/history/time/clock.jpgCoach Childress and the Aggies made a potential blowout into an exciting game but in the end ran out of time. Before the game both teams had agreed that they would not start another inning after 5:40 pm and at the end of the top of the eight it was not necessary for the Beavers to bat in their half of the inning as the game was called and the Aggies dropped only their second game of the season.
Aggie pitcher Kirkland Rivers got his first start of the season and it was one to forget after giving up 4 earned runs on 6 hits in 2 innings. This put the Aggies in an early hole that they never could dig themselves out of. Going into the bottom of the 7th the Beavers seemed to put up an insignificant run that made the game 6-1 but turned out to be the difference in the game.
The top of the 8th started out with Brodie Green pinch hitting for Darby Brown and lining out. Then Spencer Jackson was hit by a pitch. After that Luke Anders and there with 2 outs in the bottom of the eighth a little bit of Olsen Magic got in the air. Daman Greene got the comeback started with a walk moving Jackson to second base. After that the Beavers made a pitcher change who proceeded to walk Josh Stinson to load the bases. Then Aggie newcomer, Brandon Hicks, made his mark on A&M as he launched a ball over the fence for a grand slam and to bring the Aggies all the way back within a run. The Beavers then made another pitching change and they were able to get Ben Feltner to ground out to the short stop. It was then that the game was called.
The Aggies definitely made the game a lot more exciting down the stretch but by putting themselves in a hole early it was just too much to come back from. But you can't help but wonder if they had the entire game to work with if the Aggies wouldn't have pulled another one out and defeat the defending National Champions twice in just a few days. Either way it's obvious that Coach Childress has this team on the right track and one of the teams to be reckoned with in the nation this year. Here's to seeing what they can do throughout the season.
