Wide Receiver
Pittsburg (TX) Pittsburg
Ht: 5-foot-11
Wt: 163 lbs
Forty: 4.4 secs
Vertical: 39 inches
Class: 2008 (High School)
"The No. 1 thing was that they are let me play basketball," said the 5-foot-11, 165-pound Wright. "I talked to Coach Franchione about it and he said it was okay."
Prior to this weekend, Wright and his parents had spent months checking out A&M due to the efforts of wide receivers coach Bob DeBesse.
"Actually, when the recruiting season started we were overwhelmed with letters," said Wright's mother Tamika. "However, A&M was consistent. Coach DeBesse never stopped. We could expect something two or three times a week.
"He would send something in the mail with a picture of him and told him that they were watching him and wanted him to come to their school. He came to a couple of his games and talked to his teachers. They were always adamant about recruiting him."
The Wrights knew enough about A&M to want to see the recently constructed facilities at the school, especially Calloway Villas, which as with the remainder of the class of 2008 were an important selling point.
"I had seen the facilities the athletes stay in," Wright said. "I got to see how they take care of their players. I liked it because it was more like apartments than dorm rooms."
Tamika Wright was even more impressed with A&M's academics.
"Their concern for academics was impressive," she said. "They made it clear that it was important to get good grades along with being good in sports, and it wasn't just because you were in sports."
Wright said that he is happy with his decision and that he may completely shut it all down.
"I'm glad," he said. "I don't think I'll take any more visits."
Wright's mother echoed her son's sentiments.
"I am excited," she said. "I am very excited."

Blake Chavis
Weakside DE
Beaumont (TX) West Brook
Ht: 6-foot-5
Wt: 230 lbs
Class: 2008 (High School)
"I'm happy about. Actually, I'm really excited about," said Beaumont West Brook defensive end Blake Chavis who is the 18th commit of A&M's class of 2008. "We were at the basketball game and the fans were crazy. Everybody was just way into the game and I can't imagine what they'll be like at the football games."
"I didn't (commit) until after the basketball game," Chavis said. "(Texas A&M linebacker) Coach Pope kept saying, 'All you gotta do is say you're an Aggie.' After the game I knew that I wanted to commit."
"I was in there with Coach Fran and he asked me if I was ready to shake on (a commitment) and we shook on it," said the 6-foot-5, 230-pound Chavis.
All of the A&M coaches made a big impression on Chavis. While he is being recruited by Pope the rest of the staff also made sure to make him feel at home.
"I really like the coaches there," he said. "It wasn't just one coach who came to talk to me. They all talked to me. Coach Fran is a really cool guy too. I liked talking to him a lot."
While quick to point out that choosing to commit to A&M was his own personal decision, Chavis is excited about the prospect of playing with his brother Billy Chavis who signed with A&M in the class of 2007.
"Me playing with my brother, I can see us just living it up on Kyle Field," he said. "Not many people can say that they played with their brother in high school and in college, especially at the Division I level."
