Ok, where have I been? I just found out about Bodog fight. How big or popular is this? And how does it compare to UFC or Pride?

I wish they would get all these guys on the same program. the guys from Pride never fight the guys from UFC. But I heard that was about to change?

Every time I watch an ultimate fight I get an uneasy feeling. I just have to wonder what will be the next step; a  or a  which the Romans enjoyed?

Dude I use to catch a glimpse of this stuff and it made my stomach turn. Not sure what happened. But boredom took over and now I watch it and it no longer bothers me. I hate how the refs dont protect the fighters. There are times the fights should end before they do. Im sure a few years down the road when the physical effects take place on some of the guys that retire. New rules will take place

Look what you just said. More boredom and the acceptance of the current level of violence will take it to the use of weapons next.
We have laws now against cockfights and dogfights and we accept this.
This is not sport. It is extreme, but it is no different than a fight on the street where someone gets his head battered repeatedly against a curb.

Human fighters are fully aware of the consequences and willingly participate in these sports unlike the animals which have no choice.
However I do think reasonable precautions should be taken by the officials to protect the fighters from serious permanent harm.

I am sure that there are people out there that would fight to the death if the money was right. I guess that's OK, if the participants are fully aware of the ultimate risk, their death.

People seem to want to fight too.

exactly, fighting has been a human sport for an extremely long time.

I was not aware that "fighting" was a sport.
What chickens and dogs are forced to do is not sport. It is a fight for their life. I do not take sport in that.

Chickens fighting is more of a sport than Nascar.

People go to Nascar racings not to see someone get killed. They just don't want to miss it if someone does get killed.

the way UFC USED to be regulated (or wasn't) was a problem. Watching it today, there are much more rules to protect the fighters.
Legel, have you watched recent UFC fights? A little blood never hurt anyone...just ask any athlete of any sport...

fighting rules... when my dad was a kid they fought in school all the time and their dads would brag about their kid winning a big fight at school :gig:

I have watched them. I have seen the same type of thugs fight in the street. I am just worried what the fans will want next when they start getting bored.

you must not have watched UFC. It's different from "thugs in the street"...there are rules. No eye gouging, no kneeing while the opponent is down...the refs always seem to stop the fight when the fighter is KO'd (sometimes earlier)...
if you're worried about what the fans will whant then they start getting bored, then you obviously don't know the history of UFC. Back in the mid-late 90's it was pretty much as you described "street fighting"...with little rules (no weight classes, little restrictions/anything goes, etc), but it has "progressed" to be much more of a sport & some of these guys are premier athletes...
I'm not educated as to Bodog or Pride fighting and to whether they have similar rules, but from what you're saying, it doesn't sound like you've given much study to UFC (at least the way it is now), but are rather going on your assumptions or hearsay...

I will take a closer look at your UFC and let you know what I think later.
You let me know what you think of Bodog and Pride fighting.

though they have enforced rules on UFC, they still need to implement some more. That or the ref needs to be more aware of when a fighter is "hurt" Ive seen guys that are "knocked out" and still taking punches to the face that are unblocked

Just about every other fight. Or should I say when I watch a fight and the guy is knocked out it happens. Then again I use to box and I see things the average guy or viewer doesn't. In boxing when a guy is getting his brains beat in and he's having a hard time defending himself the ref calls it off. And in UFC its like the guy has to be in more than just serious trouble before they intervien (sp?
