B/CS Continues to be Hotbed of Logo Controversy

Last year Texas A&M University made national news as they confronted the Seattle Seahawks use of the term 12th man which TAMU has a copyright on. Then this year the Universty of Texas attacked College Station business Aggieland Outfitters about it's use of the saw 'em off logo and TAMU responded by suing an Austin producer of a logo of Revielle "sawed off". Well now, local highschool, A&M Consolidated has gotten into the mix. The B/CS Eagle ran a story that had this picture (http://www.theeagle.com/images/022407/10983_300.jpg) in it and somehow Mizzou officials saw the logo on the basketball and the Consolidated school district recieved a letter asking the the school cease continued use of the logo. The also asked for assurance that this would be done by Thursday. Consolidated has asked for more time but it was not apparent if they will be given anymore. Consol claims the logo was made by a student in 2002 to be painted on the court but looking at the lines of the logo it looks like a exact photoshop copy of the Mizzou tiger. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Union High School, jTulsa, Oklahoma, had a similar problem a few years ago with the use of the hurricane logo of the University of Miami.

For real, nobody in the administration knew about Mizzou and that the logo looked similar?

With that said, a lot of high schools have logos that look like collegiate and NFL logos....

The University of Miami sued the Union Schooldistrict (Tulsa, OK) because its logo, a broken U, looked almost exactly like the Hurricane logo, which is also a broken U (the only notable difference was the color scheme). Union Schools has to pay the University of Miami approx. $1000 dollars a year for its use of the broken U logo.

That's stupid. I've seen high schools with logos and uniforms that were identical to Texas, Georgia, Kansas State and others. Is Consol really going to compete with Mizzou or earn any revenue they wouldn't get otherwise?

IMO, leave high schools alone. This will open the door to thousands of lawsuits.

Copyright issues. In this case Mizzou has no choice but to tell Consolidated to cease and desist. Not a big deal.

yup, they have to do it....if they know of someone using their logo, and they allow them to continue using it, then they lose the rights to said logo...(same with 12th man)

when i was in high school i realized that probably 2/3 of the schools used the notre damn fight song as their fight song :wow:

had to spell it wrong... don't want to get sued :cool:

yeah and quite a few of the high school football unforms are direct rips of some college teams.....

that said the two logos are a bit too close to eachother imo (and i went to consol)

He probably got the pic from the $7.95 Business Cards printing shop, they have all kinds of logos you can use!

They didn't use that logo when I was at Consol. We used LSU's tiger head (without the LSU letters of course) for a lot of stuff and the exact same "eye of the tiger" they have on their field was used too. Consol should probably just go back to the old tiger. LSU had better things to do than sue high schools.

Hullabaloo plays the real version of the War Hymn, but a different version of the Spirit.

When were you at Consol? We (McCullough HS) played you guys in football and got in one hell of a fight before the game (1995) b/c we decided to take over the "eye of the Tiger" on your 50 yard line before the game started.

If Consol is going to get in trouble for their logo, then the sips need to sue Dobie HS in Houston. They are the longhorns, have burnt orange uniforms, and have the exact same longhorn logo on their helmets.
