Supposedly, this guy is the best RB in the state for next year and maybe even the best in the country. He is being compared to Adrian Peterson when he was in HS. He has been a huge sip fan all his life and was ready to commit to t.u. this past weekend, but Mack informed him that the longhorns would no longer be recruiting him.

This seems really strange. Why would the sips decide not to go after a 5 star RB that really wants to be a longhorn? Speculation is that it might be a grade issue, but Mack has never had a problem taking risks on studs with questionable grades (i.e. Vince Young) or even guys with other problems (drugs). This is very intruiguing to me. Ketchum believes that Calhoun will commit to OU as soon as this weekend.

Does anyone know anything about him? Rivals has us on his list. Is this a guy we are even pursuing? Some of his video clips on Rivals are pretty sick. He does remind me of Peterson. In the interview on there, he said he wants to stay close to home (he lives in East Texas).

He is too big of a risk for even MacDaddy...that says a lot. But it says even more about OU because they aren't even hesitating to offer.

But are we going after him? We are on his list. He wants to stay close to home. The interview with him said that he was going to (or already did) attend our Junior day. Just curious if Fran wants this guy or is okay with letting him go to OU. It probably doesn't matter at this point since it sounds like he is already OU bound.

No way we offer that guy!

I would love to know the real reason that Mack won't recruit him. Its all Ketchum's speculation at this point, so I have no idea how accurate it is. I agree that if Mack Brown won't even take him b/c he is too much of a risk then we should stay the hell away as well. Its just going to suck if he turns into another Adrian Peterson that we let get away.

Maybe it is grades. Maybe the guy has a questionable character. Maybe he even asked from some $$$. Who knows.

I believe we will end up with Gray or McGuffie and a school like OU or Okie Light will nab Calhoun. If we could take the kid and it all work out it would be really nice. Mark Brown is tired of his graduation %'s looking the way it is. So he's not taking the typical guys he has taken in the past.

With that said, I hope we get Calhoun or he goes somewhere outside of the Big 12.

We already have Dean, I think we get at least one more out of Gray, Thomas, & McGuffie. If we do that, or are lucky enough to pull two out of those 3, we won't miss Calhoun.

He's visiting this weekend.

This kid is a really good running back. I know you're talking about grades, but I want him.

"Oklahoma stands out more in my book," Calhoun said. "I like their program and when I went up there, the coaches seemed real cool. They told my parents and my teachers that they're going to make sure that I get my education up there.

"They're willing to do anything to help me."

It sounds like he wants a good education and I hear we stress that a lot of times. I hope we impress him this weekend.

"They're willing to do anything to help me."

Translated: "They can get me a job at Big Red Sports & Imports making $750 per hour."

We have one good shot at this kid and it happens on the 3rd. We need to hit a home run with this kid.

why take a risk on this kid, when you can have dean & mcguffie. id put their highlight reels against any RB's in the country

At this point you gotta treat the one coming to visit like hes the one. Because you may not get another chance at him. They're all really good. With McGuffie, I worry about his size, with Calhoun I worry about his grades. All of the others are good, but maybe not as good as the above two.

Ill take Calhoun with a smile this weekend if he says "Yes"

size? at RB? How about Quentin Griffin, Barry Sanders, Mike Hart, Tiki Barber or Maurice Jones-Drew? To me, size means nothing at RB

No way we offer that guy!

do you really think we're in the position to be that picky? Look at some of the grade risks we've taken the past few years. Coffman never got in. That LB that everyone thought was coming her from the juco, Tory Degrate, Mark Young, etc.

I do as far as RBs go. That being said, it looks like we've extended him an offer. It'll be interesting to see how hard we push him this weekend. This is the deal, if you get a committment from a guy like Calhoun that would probably mean that you are done at RB, which would leave Cyrus Gray on the outside looking in. Then if Calhoun doesn't get in, you're screwed. Recruiting is a risky business.

I think Cyrus Gray is a good enough athlete that you find him a spot on the field. And he'd be stuck behind some studs at RB either way. Worst thing that happens is he doesn't get in and we're stuck with Goodson, Stephens and Dean. Best thing that happens he gets in and comes in with a great attitude and pushes us over the top. Bigger the risk bigger the reward.

No arguing with any of that. The other concern is the possible problems with him isn't just grades. I had always thought it was more than that, but if we've extended him an offer I would probably say otherwise.
