I was away from the boards for a few days so I don't know if this has been asked yet or not...but in the tech game against us, why did they get T-ed up & then tech get the ball back?

I think it's because they had possession during the technical foul and since it's not the same as a personal foul (it was on the coach, not a player) -- so they retained possession. I've seen it a few times, but don't feel like looking up any rule books....

Surely somebody here will google it.

technical fouls always result in retention of possession. they had the ball when knight was T'd up so they keep it.

okay, that makes sense & thats what I figured it was. You just don't see to many Ts called on the team that has the ball I guess because I always remember the team getting to shoot the T & then getting the ball.

but if it was a flagrant foul, we would get 2 shots and the ball.

no problem. my roommate thought the refs were wrong, but I explained the rule to him, and then he realized like you said, that most of the time a team doesn't get T'd up while they have the ball.

But if a player got the T, doesn't that count as a personal foul and possession switches? In this case though, the coach got it. Does that cause any difference since coaches can't have personal fouls?

good question, Vly!
