Excellent question? I think Johnson is gone, rumor is that he is considering retirement at seasons end, a nice way to avoid the issuance of pink slips. I think Byrne will clean house if Johnson doesn't retire anyway.
Who should we get. I would vote for George Horton from Cal State Fullerton if he is interested, and there are also some quiet rumors that he would be interested.
I think we can all agree the state of Aggie BB right now is unacceptable, given the resources, facilities, fan base, etc. Changes are a comin'

I heard that same rumor about Horton being a candiate after this year. I think Johnson is gone after this season.

I think that the speculation needs to end, and lets play out the season. I'll worry about the coaches after the season is over.

Johnson needs to be fired as soon as possible. The Softball coach should get a raise. We should hire Bobby Valentine. He could where a mask and olsen wuold love it

This is tough, I have a lot of respect for Johnson, in the late 80's early 90's our baseball program was top notch. He is a class guy and has always represented the university well. I kinda of wish he would retire and not get terminated. It is pretty obvious to anyone that has paid attention that changes are coming, and as well they should, but it is still tough to stomach this when it is happening to a good person and coach like MJ. I will also say that with our facilities, the fan support, and the baseball environment at TAMU we should have the top coaches interested in the job, actually if you are a college BB coach, and A&M comes calling and your are not interested, then something is wrong.

Horton played at Fullerton. I'm not sure why everyone is convinced he'd come here.

Money is an issue and it will impact who is hired since funds are not available for buying out contract on hiring end

You're probably right ls61Ag, but I have a suspicion that Byrne will find a way, and money won't be an issue. Byrne will have a list, which he probably is already putting together, and he will find the right guy for the job.
As for Horton, or anyone else, being interested in coming here, why? One of the best environments in college baseball, tremendous fan support, facilities all of these things make recruiting easier. This program is ripe to be dominant, and any good coach will see that, and the lure of success is strong enough to attract many. IMHO.
