Upon a further look a Shelby Metcalf's life, I found these items of interest.
Metcalf played college basketball at East Texas State (now Texas A&M-Commerce), where he was an All-American guard and led the team to the NAIA national championship in 1955.
After signing Claude Riley, the "Crockett Rocket", Metcalf commented, "I'm just glad he wasn't from Tucker." :D
He is also quoted as saying, "The only happy Aggie is an unhappy Aggie".
I wonder what prompted him to say that? :undecided
