"With me, it's about football. I'm coming there to make a
difference. I'm coming there to play football."

Those were the words that came out of David Beckhams mouth during a press conference in which it was announced that the soccer superstar would be crossing the pond and playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy. Beckham is 31 years old and obviously on the down side of a great career. After the 2006 world cup he announced that he would step down as captain of the English team and was then quickly dropped from the team completely. The man that brought Beckham over is former USA soccer notable Alexis Lalas who said that the ~$250 million dollar decision was completely a soccer decision and not a marketing ploy. We may even be seeing a European invasion as it's being rumored that infamously goggled Dutch player Edgar Davids is in talks with FC Dallas about joining their team as well. If there was ever a time that soccer would make the turn into a mainstream sport in America it will be now, but it looks like we'll just have to wait and see.

The week in college football has been crazy. Last weekend we saw Oregon handle the number 1 team in the nation, UCLA, and we saw VaTech get revenge for last years miracle shot against Duke. This weekend the season of great basketball and parity continued as the new number 1 North Carolina was upset by the afformentioned VaTech and top teams Wisconsin and UCLA were pushed to the brink again but came out on top. The last unbeaten Division 1A team in the country, Clemson, was finally defeated by number 25 Maryland.

After the Romo debacle last weekend the NFL playoffs continued this weekend with teams playing for the opportunity to play in their http://espn-i.starwave.com/media/apphoto/NUA14601140429.jpgconference championships. On Saturday Peyton Manning and the Colts went to Baltimore and one the game on the leg of Adam Vinatieri as he kicked 5 field goals in the 15-6 win over the Ravens. In the New Orleans Superdome Deuce was loose as Deuce McAllister rused for 143 yards and one of the most impressive touchdowns that you will ever see as he moved an entire pile of players into the endzone by himself. The Saints went on to defeat the Eagles 27-24 in a much more entertaining game than proceeded it.

The Sunday games started off with what most wouldn't think would be much of a game between the Seahawks and the Bears, but those people would be wrong as they would play to a tie at the end of regulation. After forcing the punt in overtime the Bears would go down the field and kicker Robbie Gould sealed the win for the Bears with a 49 yard field goal in a 27-24 win. The weekend was capped off by a very sloppy game between "The Hoodie" aka Bill Belicek and the New England Patriots versus "The Choke Artist Extraordinare aka Marty Schottenheimer and the San Diego Chargers. Ladainian Tomlinson played his heart and played brilliantly. But only one man could do so much. The rest of the team should be watching LT more closely as stupid mental errors did the team in. In reality the Chargers were the better team but the Patriots were the professionals and played the game right and came out on top 24-21 as Nate Kaeding missed a 54 yard field goal in an attempt to tie the game.

On the home front in Aggieland the girls basketball team was able to follow up there first win in Lubbock in years with a win against number 9 Baylor in a 60-52 finish. The win marked the first win against a nationally ranked team in the Blair era. This is obviously a step in the right direction and the team will look to build off of this win.

The men's team stuck with their winning ways by beating bottom dwelling Colorado 87-69. That score is decieving as coach Billy Clyde and the rest of the team were not pleased with the performance.
"They just whipped us and made us like it," he said. "They outplayed us, outcoached us, out every-thinged us. We didn't deserve to win. We got whipped."-BCG
It's quotes like this that show the hunger for absolute perfection in this team. In a game that the Aggies played terrible they were still about to win by 18. The team will have a week put everything together and play their best ball against number 10 ranked Oklahoma State in a nationally televised game on ESPN next Saturday.
