Instead of being the smaller David, Boise State came out and proved they are just as good in any facet of the game as anyone in the country. I more appropriate metaphor to describe the game would've been "The quiet new kid vs the all american quarterback".
You have to give Oklahoma all the credit in the world though. They survived an amazing start by the Broncos as they came out and jumped up on the sooners 14-0 quickly in the first quarter and still lead 21-10 going into half time. Oklahoma continued to chip away and with 1:26 left in the game Thompson completed a td and a 3 play 2pt conversion to finally tie the game. In just 24 seconds later Broncos QB J. Zabransky threw an interception to Marcus Walker who returned it for a touchdown and all hope seemed lost. But BSU didn't back down and on an amazing 4th and 18 play they completed a hook and ladder that went for the game tying score with 7 seconds left. It was then that you knew something magical was happening tonight.
During the overtime period, Adrian Peterson, put his stamp on the game by taking the first play of overtime for a 25 yd touchdown down the left sideline. Zabransky and the Broncos slowed it down a little during their possesion and took it all the way down to the 5 yd line when they faced the 4th and 2 that could define their season. On the play Broncos qb Zabransky went into motion and running back Vinny Perretta took the direct snap and ran right. At the last second he pulled up to throw a td that was caught on a great athletic play by TE D. Schouman. It was then that BSU coach Chris Peterson decided that he'd had enough and decided to go for two. On the conversion attempt Boise had trips to the right with Ian Johnson the single back. Zabransky faked a quick screen and handed the ball off with his off hand to Johnson who ran untouched for the win to the right side.
With the win Boise State finishes the season undefeated at 13-0 and pending the championship game could become the only team to go undefeated on the season in Division 1A. This game will only fuel the fire that Division 1A football needs to get rid of the BCS system and implement a playoff system like every other sport in the free world. However today Boise will have to accept beating one of the best teams in the last 5 years and getting a little national exposure. I for one won't be looking for them to disappear from it anytime soon.
