Does "rated" talent really matter? I dont know how well boise recruited but I wouldnt think they would ever have a higer rated class than we have pulled the past 5 yrs. (or texas, ou nebraska etc)

So the question is does coaching really make up for it (or team chemistry)? Just wondering what peoples thoughts were.

And I would venture a guess that boise has had a better team the past few years than we have had.

probably a lot more team chemistry than anything....

I really think that the most overlooked thing in this situation is how big of a game this is for the underdog and how much smaller of a game it is for ou (they've been there before). If these types of games are played ten times in a row, the big named team wins at least 7 of them.

I'm gonna agree with miles, but the more important question if what miles says is true is: How is a BCS game a small game for ANY collegiate player

I think it's really hard to say.......

You have so many sites trying to quantify the top 25 recruiting class's before these hundreds of kids have never played one snap at the next level.

I think the mid tier schools are so use to not getting the top recruits that they have adapted to diferent methods of determining talent. That is why you will always have mid tiers competing at the end. Boise St. had plenty of kids out there who weren't recruited heavilly and who pretty much stuck it in OU's ass. (and of course coaching)

It is something to make you wonder anyway.

I'm kind of starting to stray away from the whole "We need to have a Rivals Top Ten Recruiting Class"

Currently for their incoming 2007 class they only have two 3 Star players & Sixteen 2 Star players... no 4 star or 5 star players...

No 4 or 5 star players in 2006 only three 3 star players...
One 4 star player (Childs) & no 5 star players in 2005...
No 4 or 5 star players in 2004... Only two 3 star players..
No 4 or 5 star players in 2003... Only three 2 star players...
No 3, 4 or 5 star players in 2002..... Nothing but 2 star players...

that actually sounds about right...

and one thing i think speaks volumes about them is I bet they are alot more restrictive about selecting players (and because there are tons of middle tier recruits they have a wide selection) to make sure they get ones who will produce and not have all of the off the field problems alot of the "highly rated" recruits have. And i think its because they were highly recruited and they think they are bigger than they are. (jorrie adams was supposed to have been one of our biggest recruits ever and he was a complete bust)

I would think their 3 and 2 star people because they arent recruited by the bigs are out to prove everybody wrong.

Also would like to put it out there...

If they are not going to give us a playoff... This shows why even if BCS teams schedule non-BCS teams instead of D-1AA schools, why it would be better... While not 100%, it would make the regular season much more of a playoff...

If Boise State had played another BCS team maybe they would have been given a shot against OSU... Lets say they had beaten a Wisconsin, Nebraska, Tenn, WVU, or Miami.... their bid for a shot against OSU would be valid...

A win over any of those teams to go along with wins over an Oregon State team that beat USC & a Hawaii that beat Arizona State & Alabama would help their case.

Let's spend whatever it takes and get Coach Petersen to come here. He runs an imaginiative offense and lets his players have fun and make plays. His players really love to play for him and it shows.

Here's my 2 cents. The talent is more evenly spread than ever with scholarship limititations. Add to that the spread which takes advantage of the biggest disadvantage in modern football: the DB to WR in terms of contact, etc.

Plus with all that diluation of talent the hardest position to fill at any level is dilluted even more--impact D-Lineman. Being that an ultra physical fast DL can disrupt a spread attack.

Well folks not many D's anymore can load up with the 6 or so quality D linemen it takes to rotate in and out to consitantly put pressure with 4.

Basically everyone has the opporutinity to have some good talent spread around and given that the spread takes advantage of where almost all defenses are thin now.

It stands to reason that anyone can beat anyone if the other team's qb who was playing WR until late summer throws 3 int's and fumbles inside their own 10 yard line. It helps when you can run a hook and ladder type play on 4-18 and then follow that up with a glorified statue of liberty on the 2pt conversion in OT.

Basically it's like the 40's all over again where Defenses are completely outmanned.

Look at the programs that are winning with either a running or passing version of the spread.

A classic game.
