Ok, enough is enough tv producers. Yeah I’m talking to you FOX, NBC, and the powers that control ESPN and ABC who produce probably more than a quarter of the televised mainstream sports on tv today. Me and every other football fan that is still breathing today turn on a football game to watch a FOOTBALL GAME. Not watch a theatrical opening complete with quotes that are intended to conjure up deep thoughts. Half of your target audience probably got a headache just from watching the opening to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl today FOX.
NBC you’re not without fault either. Sure you’ve got to make a mark with having Sunday night pro football on your network for the first time in a long time. But is it really necessary to have someone like Pink sing the opening to an event that should make slightly overweight middle aged men that want to drink beer and reminisce about the glory days? I would think not. At least if you’re going to do something “unique” put someone really hot with little to know clothes on that will really catch our attention.
And last of all ESPN and ABC you disappoint me the most. I recently finished reading an article that chronicled the beginning of the “worldwide leader of sports”. You were http://www.buffalosportshallfame.com/Class_of_2002/Paul_Maguire/maguire.jpg originally created for the real sports fan. You weren’t going to treat the fans like they were substandard but you’d actually be one too. Today’s ESPN and ABC is just like everyone else. You’re constantly trying too hard to catch the attention of the casual fan that might happen across it and stop for a minute. You put in substandard jokes of announcers that make no effort to call a quality game by learning some of the names of the players, and constantly giving us nuggets of knowledge like “there were 12 guys in the huddle…that’s a penalty”.
I’ve only got 5 more words…. Just show me the game.
