Just wanted to give the few people who care an update. I got the final version of Vista free from Microsoft for being in their media center beta program.

And I have to say I am VERY impressed with it. The networking has been a bit unstable in the past but so far its been rock solid (and I have tried every way I can think of to make it break). The media sharing in vista is very very smooth and works suprisingly well (I share my music/video library to my desktop pc and xbox 360 and both work flawlessly). The cool thing is it streams the files automatically (so you dont have to mess with sharing the folders to your other pc's). But the most impressive thing is how fast everything is. I have a pretty large music collection (25+ gigs of music alone) and it is as fast as it is on the actual computer (after it caches the albums the first time)

Media Center is very cool but it was stable already and nothing major has really changed there on the front end.

Also now that the networking is flawless again I should be getting the ou and nebraska games up but I think my nebraska record is short of the last 5 mins of the game (which sucks). They must have screwed up the guide because I told it to record and extra 1.5 hrs and it recorded a total of 3 hrs so the actual time must have been 1.5 hrs.

I look foward to it coming out. Too bad the release date is after I graduate.. I would've been nice to get it for $5.

Free is better than even $5 ;)

I knew they did stuff like this for their beta testers but I really wasnt expecting the Ultimate edition (which is the most expensive version). I doubt they will give you the Ultimate edition through tamu software (most likely home premium which doesnt include remote desktop which is a deal killer for me).

Im running an old version on my desktop still but will likely completly move both my computers over to vista in a week or so. Just need gizmo to be fixed completly for vista so I can record the podcasts. Everything else Ive tried already works with vista.

Humm.. well tamu gives you xp-pro now, so there's a chance.

I guess it doesn't really matter though as I'll be buying a new computer anyways.

What do you use now for music since you got rid of your iPod?

Well I was on allofmp3 (since you got mp3's) but since they cant take american cc's anymore I use torrents now to get mp3's.

But everything now is managed by wmp11.

I personally wouldnt bother with itunes or urge (although atleast with urge you can do the 15/month thing and get unlimited music)

I do have one issue with vista though.... the time it takes after you type in your password to the time it loads the desktop is too long imo. Takes about 20 secs and has taken that long from the beginning on my computer (and its by no means a slow computer... amd dual core with gig of ram). Everything else has been very fast and faster than XP ever was.
