From the Poster "Onehorn"

It always happens most at this time of year...the two weeks leading up to the A&M game.

My dad was an Aggie and I chose to attend college at UT.

I miss how we could give each other a hard time about our respective schools...the way he always had a cake w/ the score on it and would wake me up to the Aggie War Hymn when I was on Christmas break (went to UT 84-89...there was a cake every year!)...his jokes about failing me as a father (b/c I went to UT)...and (according to my mom) swallowing his school pride and raising the Hook'em sign at my graduation ceremony (he never would admit it to me).

More than anything, I always remember the last game he and I attended together...the 99 game.

By that point in his life, it was very tough for him to get around...heart troubles, stroke, diabetes..etc. He hadn't attended a game in a few years by that point.

However, due to the tragic circumstances surrounding that year, he asked me if I'd mind taking him to the game. I, of course, couldn't have been more fired up to get him there.

It was a special day for both of us, however, I didn't realize how special it would be. Like many UT fans, I had a tough time getting fired up for the game itself...it seemed so...insignifcant.

However, once the game started my dad and I were into it like we always were. As we all know, the game didn't turn out the way I had hoped but seeing the look of pride and satisfaction on my dad's face made the sting of the loss very short lived.

He died the following fall and I've always been thankful A&M won that last game because I know it meant the world to him.

Anyway...I just thought I'd let y'all know...I miss him...he was a damned good Ag.

Gig'em and Hook'em!
